8. Stephen the Levite - Can I Be Honest? (hip-hop)
A nice follow-up to 2011's The Last Missionary.
7. Liz Vice - There's a Light (blues rock/gospel)
With a backdrop of sublime organs and very "twang!" sounding guitars, this album is both musically and spiritually satisfying.
6. Ortolan - Covered in Black (alternative pop)
Simple yet gorgeous and effective indie pop/rock/twee music from four beautiful women who emphatically sum up the album's message in the closer; "Grace, yeah grace, will get me through my trials."
5. Trip Lee - Rise (hip-hop/trap)
Trip's newest release sees him setting the bar even higher as a rapper. His flows have improved but what was lacking before in his beats have also improved. He's moving alongside it rather than putting it first and having his words dance around it.
4. King's Kaleidoscope - Becoming Who We Are (rock)
Melding instruments like xylophones, trumpets, guitars, synthesizers, and guitars with fiercely sung songs of worship, this album is entirely worth any music lover's attention.
3. Aaron Strumpel - Vespers III & IV
While an EP, it sure packs a punch. Here we see the experimental indie artist go further into a journey of glorious yet haunting sounds.
2. Playdough/Sean Patrick - Gold Tips (southern hip-hop)
Amazing production, amazing flow, amazing album.
1. Half Handed Cloud - Flying Scroll Flight Control (chamber pop)
Well, well, well. Here we are. In a merely 28 minutes, HHC manages to carefully orchestrate an album that I feel can truly be compared to the Beach Boy's Pet Sounds. It's a bold statement, but it's true. John Ringhofer's album is one of detail and great care, with the most diverse arrangement of instruments and song structure imaginable. First and foremost however, it is an album that is seeks to worship and praise our Lord and Savior. It is littered with bible recitations, biblical imagery, and personal testament. To think that it came about while on a job-less stay in Europe to help pass the time! FSFC is a reminder to the world that the creativity of Christian music is only getting incredibly better.
If you'd like to hear any of these albums, feel free to PM me, most of these albums are free on the artist's websites!
