Paul and I were friends, even though our ages were far apart and we really had little in common.
What we did have in common was one horrible disease that seemed determined to kill both of
us and failing at that to ruin what was left of our lives. We each suffered from a cerebral bleed
caused by an arteriovenous-malformation, an AVM. What is it? It is a birth defect, long ago, that
gave us a shoddy artery in the brain. Those who have this usually don't know it until age and stress
have finally brought about a severe brain bleed, which can kill a person, or just ruin his/her life.
Paul and I each had an AVM located in the back of the brain. The location of his meant that the surgeon
was forced to remove his "sight-center" and this meant that he could not see. I asked him if he could see
anything in those early days and he said no, but he could sometimes see shadows, but it was not of
any use to him.
My sight center was OK, the cerebral bleed left it alone but very nearly killed me. I had amnesia
for several weeks.
Anyway Paul was a good Christian, married to a good Christian, but he could not see and his wife worked to
support him and their child. This went on for about seven years and often Paul would ask himself
what he was living for if he had no sight. What could he do?
One day PAul ran into two of his old school friends and they took him for a ride and that evening they brought
him to their church for a healing service. He didn't have much choice but went up and the Pastor asked him
if he believed that the Son of God could heal him. He had been a Pastor's child and he said that he believed it, but he
didn't think that the Lord wanted to heal him. The pastor said "Let's Try".
So he was prayed over and when he opened his eyes he could see...not perfectly, but he could see some. It blew his mind.
Why? He went home and talked to his wife and his father and later he came back. There was no healing service that
day, but he was told how to say a powerful prayer and when he returned home he locked himself in a closet and
prayed. When he came out this time he could see much better. At this point he went to a friend who sold glasses and he
was tested and fitted for new glasses. When ready his vision was near 20:20 and he asked for his driver's license back and
he got it. Of course this changed him and his life. Doctors tested PAul and found that evidently another brain organ had
taken on the job of sight center. I am told that in medical journals, at the time anyway, PAul was one of only three cases
where this had happened.
I was healed about the same time and communicated often to PAul and he to me. We had faith and
we both knew that God can do anything good that he wants to. We just have to have some faith.
My life was changed also. Sometimes it is like living a dream.
Thank you,
