My name is Jason, and I am 24. This is hard for a guy who is so introverted, so bare with me. I am just going to pretend I am writing for myself, but with the intention to help others. Writing is something very special to me, so I hope this helps someone. I grew up with a Christian background, but in the fake sort of way, if you know what I mean. I grew up with my grandparents, and they went to Church every Sunday and Wednesday, joined groups, etc. They were well known in their Church. But, coming from the background that I do, they had a long list of dysfunctional views. They were never the type to truly love the person, hate the sin, like most 'real' Christians are supposed to do. Instead, they judged, criticized, mocked, and even mentally and emotionally abused. Never thinking that for once, their actions had a part to play in so many people that they were doing these things to. I come from a dysfunctional family from generations, on both sides. We are not the typical, if you will, loving, close knit, Italian New York family. My grandparents were both married each, twice before their marriage now. With that, they had a separate handful of kids. None of which are theirs together. My biological grandfather, a tough, full blooded Italian New Yorker, had a horrible life. He was schizophrenic, and died from Aids due to the promiscuity of sleeping with prostitutes. My grandmother grew up as an only child up until 10, in Harlem, New York. Raised in the projects, she learned how to handle herself. She is tough, blunt, and a true old fashioned Italian. She had two younger sisters. Her mother was just as tough, and maybe that is where she learned it from. She was a quiet woman, but with a very big streak of anger. My grandmother, as the oldest child, faced the brunt of her anger. She was physically abused. But back in the day, she claims that was just the way you handled your kids. Besides that, her mother struggled with anxiety so severe that most of my grandmothers life, she didn't even know if her mother was alive or dead, because she was so drained from her anxiety. Moving onto my parents. My parents met when my Mother was babysitting for my Father's kids. He was a married, working man, with two children. She was just a lost 19 year old. Shortly after my half brother had an accident and nearly burned 80% of his body, my parents decide to runaway, and not talk or have any contact with anyone, for an entire year. My Father divorced his wife, and then married my mother. Along, came my older brother and older sister, then myself. Both of my parents struggled with mental health problems. Throughout our younger childhood, we faced homelessness quite often. We bounced from the streets to shelters to crappy motels. We had nice houses, but somehow, they never stayed in them for long. We never were able to make friends, because we moved so frequently. By the age of just five, literally right after my fifth birthday, along with my older siblings, whom were turning 8 and 9. we went into foster care. Luckily, we all got placed together. My father had allegations against of child abuse, sexual and physical. He sexually abused all three of us for years. The allegations were true, and he lost his right to have any contact with us through the courts. As a little boy, I remember being on the same exact bed where my mother laid knocked out from her anti depressants, and he abused us in the same bed where they lay. After that, we winded up in foster care. Being in foster care, at least back then, you can be adopted if you are in the house for two years. It was almost two years, and the foster parents we had were ready to adopt us. It wasn't the type of family we would have even benefited from. The home environment was harsh and cruel. Right before the two year deadline, my mother took a house. It was a dump, but we were just happy to be back. With all the new changes, we had a new addition to the family that we really didn't know so well. Our little sister was born while we were in foster care. My mother cheated on my father while we were in a shelter with a man who worked there. There was no denying that he wasn't my fathers, because my sister came out black. While we were in foster care, my mother still chose to be with my father. While pregnant, they stayed on the streets together for a while. Eventually, she moved in with a friend. After the arriving of my sister, the courts told my mother that she had to choose between my sister or my father. Well, my mother, and her dependency on men, she thought she could do both. After we all came back to live with her, her and my father remained in contact. She pleaded for him to come back. Having the risk of him abusing us again, as well as my little sister. But my mother cannot live without men, and she needed him around. She was willing to put her children in danger, again, due to her selfishness. Moving on, after two years, a new addition to the family came. My mother slept with another man, and along came our little brother. He is also half black. With all three men, all three were married when she slept with them. So, where do I end the story of the past and bring up what this story is really about? It isn't to gain sympathy, because I cannot stand sympathy. Which is probably another reason I am so closed off. No one knows any details of my life. I have never been able to vulnerable with anyone before. Well, that all changed, over three years ago. While living with my grandparents, my older brother put my sister and I in a Christian mentor program. When my mentor passed away, along came one of the new staff. I met her husband first, years prior. She took over his position, because he became one of the pastors of their church. There I was, 16 years old, laying in a hospital bed. It was the first time I tried to commit suicide. I nearly succeeded. This woman came to my room, every single day. She brought me art books, watched TV with me, you name it, she did it. Still, I tend to push people away, a lot actually. So when she seemed like she wanted to be nice, I completely shut down. I didn't trust anyone, and that is how I learned to survive. Besides the fact that she seemed 'nosey'. That was something that I was brought up to steer away from. Still, she kept on coming. For a while, she visited me, and then we lost contact. It wasn't until moving back to New York from Michigan with my then girlfriend, did I contact her. My girlfriend and I at the time were homeless for several months. My girlfriend decided to go back to her home in Chicago, leaving me in New York with no where to go or no one to turn too. Something clicked in my head. I had no idea why, because I haven't spoken to her in years. But I decided to give her a call. When she answered, she knew exactly who I was. Within no time, she decided to bring me into her home. She gave me my own room, and told me I could stay there as long as I like. To me, all I wanted to do was just get my life on track. Her husband and herself knew me from the mentoring program, so they knew somewhat the details of my background. I felt uncomfortable, and apart of me just wanted to leave at every chance I could get. But, I stayed, and I stayed for three years.

Along that time, it didn't take long for me to realize what an amazing woman she really is. I realized that I was so immature back then, and I couldn't see that she was concerned and cared about me. For the first time in my life, I actually felt..safe. She would stay up with me for hours and hours and wait for me to talk. She would always know when something was wrong. She would always be there, every single time. She taught me that I didn't have to keep everything bottled up, that everyone needs at least one person. With hesitancy and so much in me trying to hold back, I shared things with her that I never shared with a soul. I opened up to her, more and more. She began to see more and more of my mental health struggles and would come with me to my therapy appointments and try to find ways to be there for me. She researched things on how to cope with mental health issues, etc. She was just always my rock, my support, she became my best friend. She was the one person that no matter how low I was, I knew I could count on her. As much as I pushed her away, shut her out, and did so many horrible things to her, she always forgave me, and continued to unconditionally love me. In time, she tried so hard to make me apart of her family. I became so close to her, but never really clicked that much with her kids, and definitely not with her husband. However, I still did care about her kids, and I even cared about her parents. I decided I wanted to have a new chapter in my life, so I decided I wanted to legally change my name. I asked her for her suggestions, and we looked up last names that would fit me. Finally, she said that she wanted me to be apart of her family, and with reluctancy and hesitancy, I said I would think about it. I thought about it, and kept on thinking about it. I finally decided that if I didn't allow a good family to be apart of my life, then I would never have the opportunity again. So, I decided to legally change my last name to theirs. Unfortunately, not long after that, things drastically changed. She came to the courthouse with me, she even talked about doing a legal adult adoption. Something in the pit of my stomach after everything was done, didn't feel right. I shrugged it off, and just thought it was my mind trying to pull me away from something good. Once everything went through the courts, along came all the documents to fill out. Surprisingly, with her help, it didn't take long. Within a month, mostly everything was change. I wasn't excited though, not even a little bit. Now, here is where everything started. In November of 2015, a medication I was taking was effecting an area of my body. It was unfortunate, but to say the least, very embarrassing. This medication made me have a prolonged erection for hours and hours at a time. So, we are sitting on my bed and she says that she wants to 'help' me, but could only do so much, due to her husband. I couldn't understand what she meant. I mean, everything was happening so fast. I thought she wanted to be my mom, so I couldn't understand why she would be willing to do that.

Well, I allowed it. And I got uncomfortable, and got up. She pulled me back, and continued. Next thing I know, things got way out of hand. Apart of me knew I always loved her, I just didn't know how to express it. But I did, that night. I kissed her and told her I was in love with her. It felt like the most natural thing in the world. After that, she went upstairs to go sleep next to her husband. I don't know how I felt, I just know it wasn't good. Apart of me was so confused, because this woman preached to me for two years about God, and encouraged my walk with Him. She was the most honest and real Christian I thought I ever knew. Her faith to me was so genuine and real. It wasn't like the fake Christians that I knew. Well, due to my lack of trust, I constantly showed her ways it wouldn't work. I watch tons of crime shows and always compared the affairs on TV to our relationship. I said she was going to chose him in the end, and I would be left with nothing. She begged, pleaded and cried, and told me that no matter what, she will never leave me. She told me that I needed to trust her. I just couldn't do it. I constantly started arguments because I couldn't bare the uncertainty. I wanted to be in a normal relationship. Despite all of this, she knew my struggles with prior relationships with females. She knew how extreme I take relationships. I wasn't trying to manipulate her, but she knew the way I take romantic relationships. It is hard for me to be in a situation of a break up. I lose control. Despite all of our arguments, she insisted that we would make it. Not long after we got together, she talked more and more about her relationship with her husband. I always knew and felt there was something off, but she would always steer me in a different direction. The more I knew, the more I couldn't stand him. I couldn't stand someone having the privilege to have such an amazing woman, and abandon her and their kids emotionally. He was a complete stranger living with his family. He said he regretted marrying her, and he only used her for sex. She learned to become more and more independent, until she finally shut off completely to him. She stopped trying, because he never wanted to take responsibility. I knew what we were doing was wrong, but somehow knowing how bad he was somehow, in my mind, justified it. I was so in love with her, I couldn't even believe it. I dreamed of being the husband that she always needed and wanted. I dreamed of having a home with her and being content living just the two of us, forever. That would be my happy ending. Unfortunately, things never go the way you think they will. I moved out last August. She promised we would see each other often, and we would make it work. Shortly after, a friend of mine, who also happens to go to her church, was visiting me. This woman is a woman of faith, and she knew something was up. When we were talking she said she sensed from a while back that her and I had something going on, and thats when I knew that she knew. I knew she knew what was going on, and I couldn't lie to her. My friends was so angry. She kept saying how she is old enough to be my mother, how she was mentoring me, and in ways, took advantage of me. You see, I couldn't think like that. I couldn't believe that her, above all people would do that to me. People insisted that she knew my mental health history, my background, but selfishly wanted to fill her own desires. It wasn't until I realized it for myself. I have had my share of sin in my life, God knows it. But, the last time I saw her, which was several months ago, we were intimate. She promised me the last time she saw me that we were going to make it work, that what we have is real, and that if we cant be together in this life, then maybe in Heaven we can be. She had so much hope in her eyes, and she couldn't stop holding my hand. We both held each other tight, and kissed each other goodbye. That was the last I ever seen of her. We spoke a few more time after that, and that was it. She said she didn't know if she could 'handle' me for the rest of my life. Meaning, my mental health issues. That was the last things I remember from her. I can't move past the fact that above every person in my life, how could she be the one to do this? I know only God could heal this. Honestly, there is not a single soul out there who could heal my broken heart, but Him.
