Today, one of my students tried to take a test, a qualifier to get into the GED reading tests. I did not think that he was ready but he insisted. I watch as he struggled, distracted by every noise or movement. After about forty-five minutes he threw the tests down and started swearing at me in anger. I let him go on for about five minutes and then stopped him. I reminded him that he had insisted on taking the test and that it was not required, nor would it affect his status. (He is an inmate, as all my students are, and is in the work camp part of the institution where I work.) Then he put his head into his hands and just cried like a baby. Pray that I can help him overcome his learning disabilities and his frustration so that he will be able to read well enough to function in life. (He is twenty-five years old and reads at about a second grade level.) Also pray that I will be able to be a good witness of our Lord's grace. I am limited in what I can say, but the inmates generally figure out where I stand in the faith.

As one that has battled learning disabuilities, I love that you are willing to work so hard for this student.
I will pray for you both in Jesus.
You are a blessing to this student.
In Jesus, God Bless, pickles

Oh God...Lift up Charisen and his student. Lift them up In You, O God. Reach down, Father, I pray, In The Midst of this situation, In The Name of Jesus, For I am asking that his student be filled with Your Peace...That Patience Do Her Perfect Work. Oh Lord, Thank you for Charisen and what he does. And I knowing without a shadow of a doubt if God can show me how to do things that I've waited YEARS for-and it is totally shown to me within weeks!!! Oh my...Father, I also ask for a quick work for Charisen's student that he learn to read in record time!!! I KNOW, Lord, You can and You will!!! In The Mighty Name of Our Savior, Lord and King...Jesus...Amen

Hi resurrection33, I think is a great challenge you are dealing with right now.I would say is a great challenge instead of trial and tribulation. In my life I am battling over myself over failure or things which I won't like to do. I find it the things you said is really a great challenge. yes it hurts, when you see your student cry but you love him don't you? You want him to know how to read and write and In future I feel that he'll be thankful for doing it because on through suffering and perseverance we learn just like what has mention in James 1:2-4

Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

and remember to show your love to him unconditionally !

Why are you limited in what you can say?
Generally because I am hired to help administer the GED program, not to preach. Specifically, because I work for the state of Idaho and they have specific rules. I am allowed to talk to them about what they talk about, so there is some opportunity, but they have to initiate and maintain the conversation.

Well when, you get a chance and they asked you to tell a story from the Bible then that's your chance ! May God Bless You!

Has he had his vision tested? sometimes eye saccade problems contribute to disability. their eyes dont pause on words & register the word... they just sorta float around so they are unable to process the info though they are reading the info. use a popsicle stick with a 1/2cm red dot at the end of it, about 24" from his nose straight out, have him hold his head still & straight the slowly raise the stick up while he follows it with his eyes alone slowly up to the top of his vision without moving his head, then down to the bottom... if he tears quickly he may have problems with the muscle development or saccades muscles... It was just something I thought of when reading your prayer request. My son had this and after only 3 weeks of vision therapy his work improved. he went from all c- , c's in first term to b average 2nd & third term. See vantage vision & reading online... I can get you a link. I'm looking into being trained for this so I can provide service to the public schools & early childhood intervention as it is a fairly common problem with young boys but sometimes continues into adulthood... also commonly associated with dyslexia (my son has a mild form of this as well) Bless your heart Charisen I think you are wonderful!

Idaho isn’t so far away. Come down and check out my coin collection.

It appears you are his vent right now and that he trusts you enough to open up. I pray the LORD give you His words to say to this man and for you to know when to swoop in with them and grab at the opportunity when the optimal time appears.
