Last summer, I started having pain in the left side of my chest, my left shoulder, and all down my left arm. My first thought, of course, was a heart problem. It wasn’t debilitating at that point, and as I was breathing fine I assumed I wouldn’t kick the bucket in my sleep. Then the pain increased in frequency and intensity, so within a month I went in to see a doctor.

She did several blood tests and an ekg which were all normal, told me it was heartburn, and prescribed meds for it. I took them the full length I was told to, still had the pain, and was starting to develop anxiety over it. I went to another doctor; she seemed less concerned than the first and barely looked at me before diagnosing costochondritis and Tietze’s Syndrome (inflammation of rib cartilage). This actually made sense, it was something I could easily check for myself, so I took the prescribed anti-inflammatory for the recommended two weeks and started feeling better. I was told that costochondritis usually goes away on its own within a couple of months, so I was a little concerned when it flared back up again, except far worse. I had the same pain, but it had also spread to my neck. I was also experiencing racing heart/palpitations along with regular headaches. Nothing I took helped, so I stopped bothering and instead started avoiding foods that seemed to trigger the worst symptoms.

I stayed in this weird and anxious state, just trying to wait it out, for another month before one night as I was falling asleep my husband shook me hard and yelled my name- I had stopped breathing. Tried to go to sleep after we calmed down, but it kept happening. I eventually was able to sleep (and breathe) sitting on the sofa. I went to yet a different doctor the next day- he had zero concern about the heart issues or pain I was having, examined my nose and throat, and prescribed antibiotics for what he said was a mild sinus infection. It helped with the breathing trouble- but new symptoms popped up after those meds were gone; I was dizzy, my legs were painful, I had a constant muscle twitch in my side, migraines every day, abdominal pain, and no appetite and major fatigue.

Generally, it’s best to avoid Googling symptoms. It’s just terrifying and mostly misleading. But short of another useless trip into town for another wrong diagnosis, I didn’t see a lot of options. I’m tired of popping pills that don’t work. I’m tired of doctors barely listening to what I’m saying. I was able to keep calm and rational while researching and have narrowed my symptoms down to just a few possible causes- costochondritis/Tietze’s Syndrome only being a part of it. Anxiety has definitely been a cause.

I’ve started taking magnesium, potassium, and fish oil (three days now), and there is definite improvement over all- no heart issues, less pain, no migraines (still headaches though).

Sorry this is so long! I’m wondering if anybody here has dealt with anything similar- or what natural ways anyone treats anxiety/pain/insomnia?

Well, for anxiety you can take Gaba. Capsules are ideal. Open one into a bottle of water and drink on the water. Or take one whole and add another to a bottle and sip on the bottle.
I believe B6 boosts the Gaba.
I take Gaba by Serene Science. It will require a health food store or similar. Wal-Mart won't carry it. Or, of course, online. A bottle of 90 should run $15-20. B6 should be at Wal-Mart. But the smallest dose, it takes very little. Cheap too.
It's natural. Obviously not as strong as something like Xanax, but it helps minimize things to make it easier to control how you feel.
There was also Kava Kava that I used to take, that helped.

Anxiety often makes it tricky to tell what symptoms you're having. Is it a symptom or is it anxiety? I run into that when I have anxiety. Chances are at least one thing you're feeling will work out that way and you'll be wrong as to which it is haha.

Insomnia? Yeah. Figure out and fix the problem that you're having =P

Perhaps schedule an appointment at a doc that's in a larger city, if you haven't tried that already.

I would think an MRI should be done. There are problems with the neck and upper back that can create all these symptoms.

Check your blood pressure too. If it's high one "may" experience anxiety and insomnia.

Magnesium and potassium would help its of a spinal problem. Am retired nursing. Plus have a rare spinal problem. It could just be a herniated disc in the cervical area.

I take CBD oil now, and it's the best muscle relaxer for me that I've tried. It helps many with anxiety.

Isolating this, just to say that kava kava can cause liver damage, and should be used sparingly and not for uninterrupted prolonged lengths of time. As with many substances/drugs used for anxiety, it can actually increase depression.

Everything is bad for something in wrong amounts or periods of time. Don't feel a need to lay out every single one. And you've told me this multiple times already. I get it.

MissCris, I've read your entire post and my instinct points to you being affected by some kind of toxin or allergen in your environment. Are you using chemicals or are there any chemicals being used near where you live? Maybe there is a high amount of allergens in the air? Have the neighbors started spraying something? It sounds to me like maybe its something you are being exposed to and are breathing in or maybe coming in contact with your skin, but the migraines and breathing problems sounds like it might be something you're breathing in.

Hi miss Chris, you might want to be aware of this as well.

Health risk of herbal pills interacting with other drugs | Daily Mail Online

By the way if you eat plenty of fruit, veg, nuts, it’s highly unlikely you are low in
potassium. Potassium is pretty much contained in everything which grows in the ground or
on trees. Too much potassium however can cause palpitations and racing or irregular heart
beat.

My aunt has reduced kidney function and her potassium levels tend to keep going a bit high.
She can’t have more than 3 portions of fruit or veg a day, can’t eat bananas, dried fruit or
tomatoes at all as they are high in potassium.

You could try cutting out caffeine and see if that helps. I switched to caffeine free tea
some time ago and also cut right down on coffee maybe a cup every other day. I was
really surprised at the results. I never realised the palpitations I was getting and night were
due to too much caffeine. I also fall asleep far quicker too.

Oh and another thought have you had a thyroid function test and calcium test.
Maybe you could ask your doctor. Many of the symptoms you describe can be
due to one or both of these.

For ages I was getting symptoms of anxiety, along with muscles aches, numbness,
palputations, excessive thirst (came on gradually), headaches, eyes hurt in bright
light, light headedness, dizziness, aching joints, arms, fingers. Several times I
sort of jumped or jolted awake in bed with my heart thudding.

Every week it felt like I got a new symptom. Then suddenly it got really bad and I
nearly passed out on a bus one day. Eventually went to doctor and I found out I
had an over active thyroid. Which also causes problems with blood sugar, low calcium,
low potassium, and that’s why you end up with so many strange symptoms.

Dear Missy,

as you can see by the responses, we each and everyone of us has our own slightly different
'make-up' and must put our whole hearts into finding out what works best for us -
for those who are sharing, this will be of great help in defining your symptoms and so very
helpful remedies that have helped 'them', but of course we will all be a bit different in how
these affect ourselves individually...as concerning what we put into our Temples on a daily basis,
such as what and how we eat...and adding into the equation what 'drugs' are being taken...

for myself, I have occasional 'intense' pain in my shoulders, usually the left, that runs down into my hands
with intense inflammation showing up in my hands and feet that turn 'red as a fire engine'...
fibromyalgia, plus RA, plus intense nerve and spinal damage from a broken neck...+

'fatty acids' are KEY in 'reducing inflamation' plus different herbs that specifically target this..
we use several 'anti-natural-inflammation remedies' that work for us both to some degree = one is
topically,
TeaTree Oil, all must be '100%Pure - Himalaya Cedar Wood - Eucalyptus - Lavendar - Orange, Peppermint -
Frankincense -all organic' essential oils...= several more...

internally, take as much 'fatty acids as you can take, such as, for us, 'Salmon Oil',or Krill Oil'...
we always use Olive Oil for cooking and Sesame Oil, not compromised by any other ingridients
from other countries, another words, PURE, from a one source-country, no fillers...

we also drink daily, our own concoction of naturally grown fruits and vegs, = brewer's Yeast Flakes,
which we call our
'bombs', that drastically 'boost our immune systems'...

we search the internet, for the Pure Oils, as they are very competitive and often we can find
bogo free...also, since we live in a house that's over 100yrs. old, you can just imagine the 'mold',
so we use these also in our diffuser...it makes an amazing difference, since they KILL
mold and mildew...

hope this little bit of info helps somebody, GB...

absolutely NO REFINED foods (anything refined white has no food value') or sodas or artificial sweets...
totally 'whole grains',
and pure juices...

if hub and I can do this on our budget, ANYONE CAN!!!
:rolleyes::)

First, I'm sorry to hear you're going through this and not getting any relief. I know nothing about your symptoms or any possible medical cures. But perhaps I can offer some insight into the three doctors' indifferent attitudes towards your pain.

I think with the current opioid addiction epidemic has most doctors skeptical of new patients who seek treatment for pain on their first visit. In other words, the prescription drug abusers who caused this problem have ruined it for those like you who seek treatment for legitimate pain symptoms.

Have you thought about prayers and laying of hands? I know this can work. I witnessed a miraculous lifesaving cure of a three-day-old infant wavering on the cusp of death.

My sister had the same issues with the costochondritis. It has gone away.
She also had sleep apnea which would cause her to stop breathing in her sleep.
Definitely your issues are causing anxiety and sis...God says we need not be anxious for anything.
You may have some other issues as well...
I know there are great Christian homeopathic Doctors that can Rx some natural remedies for your issues. Ask around and Google some...read any comments and check on your state medical board website to check for any complaints made against any Dr before seeing him/her. I've been in the health care field for over 27 years and hold both state certs and a medical license...and I always recommend checking out a Drs reviews first.
God bless.
