Bible says that a person is no longer bound by their vows after their mate dies.
"Till death do us part" is a Biblical concept.
In this way, the door is left open for the "prodigal mate" to return.

Deuteronomy 24:1-4 reads as follows: “‘[1]When a man takes a wife and marries her, if then she finds no favor in his eyes because he has found some indecency in her, and he writes her a bill of divorce and puts it in her hand and sends her out of his house, and she departs out of his house, [2] and if she goes and becomes another man's wife, [3] and the latter husband dislikes her and writes her a bill of divorce and puts it in her hand and sends her out of his house, or if the latter husband dies, who took her to be his wife, [4] then her former husband, who sent her away, may not take her again to be his wife, after she has been defiled; for that is an abomination before the Lord, and you shall not bring guilt upon the land which the Lord your God gives you for an inheritance’”

Divorce was tolerated but do to hardness of heart.
Today we have forgiveness thru Grace

Divorce was rare in OT times for one paid a high price to get the lady you wanted

Yes. I am divorced and I've married again. Divorce is not the unforgivable sin. God will not punish one person for the sins of another, so the innocent party is free to remarry. If both are in the wrong, then the blood of Jesus pays for their sins. Having said that, divorce should be absolutely the last resort. The emotional, social and financial costs are way too high.

Hello @SunshineGirl, this seems a short, but relevant passage (from what we refer to as the Lord's "Sermon on the Mount"), one that we should take time to consider, I think.

Matthew 5
31 “It was said, ‘WHOEVER SENDS HIS WIFE AWAY, LET HIM GIVE HER A CERTIFICATE OF DIVORCE’;
32 but I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except for the reason of unchastity, makes her commit adultery; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.”
God bless you!!

The question was if a person gets divorced can they remarry?
The answer is "Yes, under SPECIFIC circumstances."

1. When one spouse in unfaithful and this leads to divorce, the spouse that was betrayed may remarry. If a Christian then only "in the Lord".

2. If an unbelieving spouse abandons the believer, the believer may remarry, but only "in the Lord" (another believer).

3. Divorce for all other reasons is forbidden. And all remedies to rectify the situation should be looked at.

If they have divorced in accordance with the acceptable reasons for divorce in the Holy Bible then yes they can Remarry..

I agree with what Mehemiah wrote below::

Thanks for all your help.
I felt I was being a little trapped when asked this question.
Sounds like both were unfaithful in their marriage. I just said a person can get divorced on them grounds. Regarding remarriage i didn't like to same either way.
Both my parents get remarried after their divorce I didn't go to either of their weddings as it didn't feel right for me to go but I love them both very much. A man at work got married to another man and again I didn't go to the wedding as didn't feel right.
I think when people hear you are a Christian they think you have all the answers. I just say I am a sinner who believes in Jesus Christ and every day I ask the Lord to help me be more like Jesus and a lot less like Julie
I have learnt over the last four years getting to know the Lord Jesus to talk to him about everything if I feel peace about something I go with it if not I wait and sometimes it's a lonnnnnnnggggggg wait hehe but I know he is a good God, loving God and he know what is best for me 🥰🥰🥰

If both parties forgive each other, there will be no big problem.Don't always chew on words. What Jesus Christ taught is more applicable. The terms taught by disciples and apostles are only written for the mystery of the teaching of Christ.

The rules taught by disciples and apostles only apply to the simple teachings of those who cannot fully understand Christ.
