Many of Gods elect have come out of the Catholic Church, leaving behind rosary beads, statues of Mary; Nehushtan: thing of Brass, no longer of any value. Muslims called out by God have left prayer rugs and other religious paraphernalia, Nehushtan: thing of Brass, no longer of any value. Paul said after leaving behind his life as a Pharisee; But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. Phil 3:7 Nehushtan: thing of Brass, no longer of any value. Instead of trusting in religious artifacts as some kind of amulet to bring us closer to God, it replaces God and keeps us from trusting in the one we cannot see. This is the way God has wanted it from the beginning, and it has not changed over all time. No where in scripture has God told his people to use ANYTHING to remind them of him, the scripture says the opposite. Our faith and trust is in Him alone, we are to call on Him only; Jesus told the disciples And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. Jhn 14:13-14; that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. Jhn 15:16 And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. Jhn 16:23
It would seem pretty clear from what Jesus said, WHO we are to call on and in WHOSE NAME we are to ask. You will not find anyone in the New Testament inquiring to the saints for help. That is because all the people Paul wrote to were saints, LIVING people. Acts 9:32 says And it came to pass, as Peter passed throughout all quarters, he came down also to the saints which dwelt at Lydda. Paul wrote to the church at Ephesus Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus: Eph 1:1 And to the church at Colosse To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ which are at Colosse: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Col 1:2 Paul was not writing to the dead but the living!
So as we call upon God in the name of Jesus, and we see the statues of “Saints” we say Nehushtan: thing of Brass.
Finally, we see written on our currency, “In God we trust” but I wonder what god it is we trust in? A rich young ruler came to Jesus one day saying, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? After Jesus told him to sell all he had, give to the poor, we read But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions. Mat 19:16,22 And What then did Jesus said to the disciples? Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven. And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. Mat 19:23-24
What did he mean? Those who have wealth tend to trust in money instead of the Lord. Even those who are not wealthy trust in money instead of the Lord and James says to them, Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten. Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days. James 5:1-3 As we look at the current situation in the stock market we see people loosing money that they invested, trusting in the market to make them more money for their security. Jesus say Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again. Luk 6:38
And God said through the prophet Malachi, Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. Instead of giving your money to men to invest it, trust God with your money, give it to him. But alas money is become an idol and we think it will solve all our problems, but it will not. Do we need it? Yes but the scripture says But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Phil 4:9 So we must ask the question which do I need more Money or God? Money can run out, God is never ending, everlasting, and always there.
