Analysts built a spreadsheet sorting more than six dozen Americans into two columns: Democrats like Joe and Hunter Biden, Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, Barack Obama and George Soros were labeled 'targets' of Russian propaganda. Conservatives investigating the Bidens were labeled '𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐬' for spreading it.
Among the people the FBI formally tagged as conduits: then-Attorney General Bill Barr, then-Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and Republican Sens. Chuck Grassley, Ron Johnson and Lindsey Graham, plus House GOP chairmen Devin Nunes and Jim Jordan. Their crime was investigating whether the Biden family corruption allegations were true. The bureau's Foreign Influence Task Force signed off on every label with a formal 'no objection.'
It gets worse. This operation is the mirror opposite of Crossfire Hurricane, the FBI's Russia-collusion probe that chased unsubstantiated claims against Trump for years. This time, FBI analysts had real evidence in hand — including 𝐇𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐁𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧'𝐬 𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐥𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐨𝐩 — and moved to bury it instead.

In an interview on Real America's Voice, host Wayne Allyn Root pitched the President directly on a way around a Senate that has spent months accomplishing nothing on election integrity. "So let me put an idea in your head," Root said. "Because it's so hard to get the Senate to do anything. Now they're on recess. They don't get anything done. If they never get the SAVE America Act done, you have the right to declare a national security emergency for elections." Root went on to argue that the Supreme Court's 1983 ruling in INS v. Chadha means such a declaration "can't be challenged" in court and could only be undone by a two-thirds vote of both chambers, and that acting within the month would deliver photo identification, proof of citizenship, and limits on mail-in balloting without a single Senate vote.
The President did not dismiss it, did not laugh it off, and did not change the subject.
He said, "Let me just say that stranger things have happened. I'll leave it at that."
That answer is now the only thing anyone in the national press wants to talk about, and it is worth asking why a noncommittal reply has produced quite this much panic.
The honest explanation is that the left has spent a decade insisting election integrity is a manufactured grievance, and their entire strategy has depended on a Republican Senate too cautious to ever prove them wrong. On that second point, they have been proven right again and again.
The SAVE America Act asks two things. That a person establish he is a citizen of the United States before helping choose the government of the United States, and that he present the same photo identification already required to board a plane, open a checking account, pick up a prescription, or get past the door at a Democratic National Committee fundraiser. Poll after poll shows overwhelming support for both across every partisan, regional, and racial line the survey researchers can draw. This is one of the few things left that Americans broadly agree on, and it is sitting dead in a Republican Senate that adjourned for recess rather than force the issue.
The machinery of American elections was built to run through the states, and it has worked that way since Article I, Section 4 was ratified. The Constitution assigns the states authority over the times, places, and manner of holding elections, and it gives Congress the power to alter those regulations. Federal action in this space, from any president of any party, is going to meet organized legal resistance before the ink is dry, and anybody promising otherwise is not being straight with you.
But that does not answer the question the President's remark actually raises, which is what a free people are supposed to do when the constitutional remedy exists on paper and the men elected to carry it out will not lift a finger. The Senate has the authority right now, today, without anyone declaring anything. It has the votes on the merits and it has the public behind it. What it lacks is the willingness to break a filibuster, cancel a recess, and absorb a week of hostile coverage from outlets that were never going to write a kind word about Republicans under any circumstance. Leader Thune had his opening and let it close.
The President's frustration is the frustration of every American who has voted faithfully for twenty years expecting Washington to secure the franchise and watched Washington schedule another district work period instead. Whether extraordinary measures are the right answer is a serious constitutional question with real costs attached, and one that will be settled in a courtroom regardless of who occupies the Oval Office.
It deserves a real debate. The people performing horror this week spent four years cheering executive action whenever it ran their way.
