Iran's national security adviser, Mohsen Rezaei, told a high-level government meeting on Saturday that the country is in one of the most difficult periods in its history, according to The New York Times. It was a rare admission from the top of the regime. Legal Insurrection called it proof that the economy is "𝘳𝘢𝘱𝘪𝘥𝘭𝘺 𝘥𝘦𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨".
The numbers back him up. Reuters reported the dollar sold for around 2.688 million rials, up from 2.632 million on Friday, a new historic low. Iran's central bank announced an injection of up to $2 billion to prop up the currency. The Guardian reports inflation is running at 85%.
