Federal prosecutors announced charges on Thursday against New York City Mayor Eric Adams accusing the former police captain of taking illegal campaign contributions and bribes from foreign nationals, including lavish overseas trips, in exchange for favors that included helping Turkish officials bypass a fire safety inspection for a new diplomatic tower in the city.
Adams, a Democrat, faces conspiracy, wire fraud and bribery charges in a five-count indictment outlining a decade-long trail of corruption that began when he served as an elected official in Brooklyn and continued through his mayoral administration.
Among other things, prosecutors say Adams received free and steeply discounted flight upgrades valued at more than $100,000, free stays in opulent hotel suites, expensive meals, as well as campaign contributions from straw donors, some of which helped him qualify for more than $10 million in matching public campaign funds.

I think Adams is being accused of Taking money from the Turkish government or someone in Turkey. Not sure what the angle on that is; but Trump was accused of that not ago as well. Turkey is apparently a laundromat.

His case is really weird, though. They're taking the value of bunch of "free stuff" he got and calling them "campaign contributions"; but I don't see how him flying to Istanbul and staying in a hotel is "campaigning". 'Accepting free travel' just seems like a really weird thing to nail somebody for.
The building permit scandal, I understand the premise of; but it is kinda surprising that a tentative ally like Turkey would do all this for an expedited safety inspection. I can't figure out what they want with Mayor Adams; maybe they were just 'investing' in his future political career, Idk.

So, the question is: is this the doing of some white hat arm of the FBI; or is this the DS FBI squashing Adams for his criticism of the Biden- Harris immigration policy?
I could see if Turkey paid for his domestic travel between rallies and events and so forth- I could see that as a campaign contribution: but not travel to Turkey. I don't see how any activities in Turkey would be connected to a mayoral campaign in the United States. Unless NYC is letting Turks vote in the election.

2 fire officers have been arrested since that story broke out over receiving bribes to "fast-track" fire inspections.
This is the scheme I think they are saying Mayor Adams is a part of.
