I look at it this way: Snowden could have went to another government agency with the information... or multiple government agencies, and it would have been fine (by me). He still would get in trouble, probably, but not treasonous. If he did that and sought asylum somewhere- I'd be fine with that. What he did was stupid at the very least and treasonous at the worst.
