Βαραββᾶς Barabbâs, bar-ab-bas'; of Chaldee origin (
H1347 and
H5); son of Abba
I am aware of the translation, and as I already said, a lot of Jewish names were something to the effect of being a son of god.
Matthew 27:16 And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas.
Yes, he is notable to us because of the situation with Jesus.
His insurrection, as I specified, was not; because nobody seems to know the details.
Every word is useful and meaningful
It is useful and meaningful: at the same time, you can't use it, or make it mean whatever you want.
No, but the scripture you pointed out will also suffice.
Trump has been accused of all of these things.
Anyone can accuse anyone, it means little.
You were the one that compared Trump to Jesus in your post.
I said their
would be a comparison specifically with respect to their legitimacy. Which is an accurate statement.
The bible certifies that Barrabas was a murderer. Trump was accused for political reasons by the DP.
One of these things is not like the other.
I did not quote from any "preterist" church that draws the parallels between Trump and Barabbas. Therefore bringing that up was a red herring.
The link you provided was clearly a citation, and the church that authors that article is preterist in doctrine.
They didn't compare Barabbas to Trump, that's true. But them making a big deal out of Barabbas' name; and specifically, the way they do it, is one of the things I have a problem with.
"The name is ironic, considering that Christian belief states Jesus as the only Son of the Father."
Except,
Christian belief does not state that. There is a very meaningful difference between "Only-begotten son" and "only son".
"I -- I have said, 'Gods ye are, And sons of the Most High -- all of you," Is the scripture Jesus used to defend himself against people accusing him of blaspheming: all the Israelites could be called 'Sons of God'.
Post #1,391 “ I have no idea why, but it seems like there is at least a large handful of Christians that either want to deny they have any stake, or hand over their stake to the enemy and be persecuted. It might not be a salvation issue, but I think it's definitely neglectful if all you ever do is pray- but never act when you have the authority to act.”
So what does this mean “neglectful”?
Are you saying that they are neglecting to hear your call for action?
IIRC, this was about people's stake with respect to the nation and citizenship. I wasn't talking about people neglecting their salvation as in Hebrews 2. The point I was trying to make is that if we neglect our civic responsibilities we are going to be persecuted- and there's no reason to let our US Government become like Canada, or worse. We don't need representatives passing legislation against preaching the word.
You tell me that this is a matter of the faith.
Specifically with respect to the Barabbas/Trump comparison.
We've not reached some point where we need to choose between Trump and Jesus. There are some on Christian Chat that have said that voting for Trump is like choosing Barabbas over Jesus.... it's not even close to the same thing. The democrats are not Jesus; they are nothing like him, and their policy is nothing like his doctrine. It's a false comparison. Trump is not Barabbas, and the Democrats are not Jesus- they are
closer to the Roman Empire, but there are important distinctions in between now and then.
Now... Trumps arrest falling into the Passover is probably a political ploy that both sides will try to use to their narrative advantage in some way- but no one should get caught up in this allegory like

"OH NO, IF I SUPPORT TRUMP, I'M LIKE THE JEWS"

. That's not what is going on here.
