I suspect that there was likely a substantial influence in some well intended portion of those Recruited who ultimately DRANK THE DS COOLAID (MK Ultra) and BECAME Brain Washed Disciples (Converts) to honestly believe that they were on the side for good - believing that their efforts were all intended to support the Greater Good...
I'm sure that there were also some very clever 'peer pressure' techniques that made it hard not to be seen as a team player...
