I remember studying the County and State Level elections during the Obama victories coming away with the fear (Know they Enemy) that the Right's vulnerability against a Left that is willing to Win at all costs - could very easily relocate many of their overwhelming Dominance in BIG BLUE INNER CITIES and MIGRATE Blue Votes into the Swing States as a means to ensure future victories in those Swing States... I did not see at the time - that they would use border crossings as a means to achieve the same effect.... But as soon as they began to do that - coupled with the state of Irregular Warfare - I immediately recognized that they were using the Border crossings to infiltrate the USA with military aged bad actors and an imminent threat to National Security...

- or that he just had some blind bad luck that is all too often a risk that senior level folks face to ensure that they distance themselves from potential conflicts of interests as they transition from active duty into a consulting job with an organization that he has a history of working with on his way out?

I don't have any inside insight or scoop on this one... but I do tend to give folks the benefit of the doubt as they try to make the delicate transition from active duty into a defense contractor position... It really is a slippery slope...

A retired four-star admiral who once served as the Navy’s second-highest ranking officer, was convicted of bribery and other conspiracy charges, making him the most senior member of the U.S. military ever convicted of committing a federal crime while on active duty.
Following a five-day trial, retired four-star Adm. Robert P. Burke, 62, was found guilty on Monday of a scheme to direct lucrative contracts to a training company in exchange for a $500,000-a-year job after leaving the Navy, according to a news release from the Department of Justice.
Burke is facing up to 30 years in prison for his role in the scheme to direct contracts potentially worth millions of dollars to a New York City-based company that offered training programs to the Navy.
"When you abuse your position and betray the public trust to line your own pockets, it undermines the confidence in the government you represent," U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro wrote in a post on X following the conviction.
Admittedly; I'm a little bias, because I guess the work he was doing with these contractors was a program that was supposed to do something about at-sea collisions; specifically by addressing certain negative aspects of Navy culture- I'm bias because I was in an at-sea collision; and there were 6 collisions within a year of me getting out; so lets say we might share a similar passion. Sailors died for no reason, and it pisses me off- not to mention the costs and reduction in capability caused by that many collisions... it's a stupid problem to have and I think he was trying to keep doing something about it in retirement.
The evidence of the case shared by the news is underwhelming to me; but from what I understand the contract that he awarded the contractors did not even come close to offsetting his salary/stake in the company; IOW, they lost money by taking him on. It's just really weird. At least for a "bribe".
