U.S. Blockade of Iran Reaches Milestone of Redirecting 100 Ships​

TAMPA, Fla. — U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces reached the milestone of redirecting 100 commercial vessels, May 23, while enforcing a maritime blockade against Iran.

American forces began implementing the blockade April 13 against commercial ships entering and exiting Iranian ports, in accordance with a presidential proclamation. Over the past six weeks, more than 15,000 Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Airmen have redirected 100 vessels, disabled four, and allowed 26 humanitarian aid ships to pass.

"Our service members are doing extraordinary work," said Adm. Brad Cooper, CENTCOM commander. "They have been highly effective by executing the mission with precision and professionalism, allowing zero trade into and out of Iranian ports which has squeezed Iran economically."

More than U.S. 200 aircraft and warships are supporting the mission, including the Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group, George H.W. Bush Carrier Strike Group, Tripoli Amphibious Ready Group/31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, and multiple guided-missile destroyers.

The blockade is being enforced against vessels of all nations entering or departing Iranian ports and coastal areas, including all Iranian ports on the Arabian Gulf and Gulf of Oman.

— The state of play: Rubio acknowledged only ‘𝐬𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬’ in indirect talks — no breakthrough yet — while the US naval blockade keeps Iran’s ports sealed.
— The posture: Trump prefers diplomacy, but Rubio made clear the option 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧-𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝.
— The leverage: it is diplomacy backed by a carrier blockade and a credible threat of force — the only kind Tehran has ever answered.
This is what leverage actually sounds like. For years the mullahs “negotiated” by stalling, certain the West would never truly squeeze. A blockade choking their ports, plus “one way or the other,” is a different conversation entirely. Give up the uranium or lose the regime is a choice they have never once had to make.

The mechanism: Senate Republicans add SAVE Act language as an amendment to a bill Democrats need to pass; Democrats then have to vote against the consolidated package (and own the political cost) or accept SAVE Act passage. The filibuster makes standalone passage difficult; the amendment route is the only realistic path.
Why the two non-voting amendments matter politically. 𝐕𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐈𝐃 + 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐟 𝐨𝐟 𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝟕𝟎-𝟖𝟎% 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐥 𝐠𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐚 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞. ‘No men in women’s sports’ polls at ~80% even among Democrats. ‘No transgender procedures on minors’ polls at 70%+. The Trump strategy is to attach the two voting-integrity reforms to two cultural issues with massive cross-tab Democratic support, then force Senate Democrats to vote no on the whole package and own the result.

Senate Democrats blocking it on procedural grounds is the cleanest political-cost trade the Trump White House has set up in 4 years. If Thune plays the bipartisan-amendment hardball Trump is asking for, the bill passes in Q3 2026 and the 2028 election runs under a fundamentally different integrity framework.

And the line that moves the entire world economy: “𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘏𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘶𝘻 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘣𝘦 𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘥”.
He didn't get here alone. Trump said he had worked the phones with Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Bahrain, Turkey and Pakistan's Field Marshal Asim Munir — the entire regional bloc. A separate call with Prime Minister Netanyahu, he said, “𝘸𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘸𝘦𝘭𝘭”.
Understand why Tehran is suddenly at the table. 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞, 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥. After this spring's air war gutted Iran's nuclear sites, the regime tried to choke off Hormuz — boarding ships, laying mines, charging tolls. The U.S. answered with a naval blockade and an operation to escort merchant traffic out by force. The mullahs are negotiating from a crater.

Here's the catch, and it's a big one. Reporting indicates the 𝐧𝐮𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐮𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞, 𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐤𝐬 — and Israel is openly skeptical. Netanyahu's nightmare is exactly this: a deal that reopens Hormuz and lifts the pressure while leaving Iran's enriched uranium right where it sits.
My read: peace through strength is real, and it is the only thing that has ever moved this regime an inch. But a ceasefire is not a victory. The regime that armed H∗mas, H∗zbollah and the Houthis should not be handed a lifeline to rebuild — it should be handed a tombstone.
Reopen the Strait. Take the uranium. Give them nothing on the bomb. Anything softer just resets the clock to the next war.

The carrots are bigger. Iran gets 𝐨𝐢𝐥 𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐰𝐚𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬 and, per the source, 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐳𝐞𝐧 𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 if a final deal is reached.
Look at the shape of that trade. The pressure is temporary — 30 days of ships offshore. The concessions are enormous and lasting: the regime gets to sell its oil again and gets its cash back. That is exactly the structure hawks warned about — relief and money up front, the nuclear question shoved to “𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘳”.
The honest caveats: this is one anonymous source, Axios reports a 60-day window instead of 30, and the money only flows after a final, verified agreement. Nothing is signed.
Leverage is what dragged Tehran to the table. You don't hand it back for promises from a regime that still funds H∗mas, H∗zbollah and the Houthis. Take the uranium. Keep the squeeze. Verify everything.

It wasn't always this lopsided. The turn came when President Trump threw his full weight behind Paxton, calling him a true MAGA warrior — and Republican voters fell in line fast.
The same market expects Paxton to win by 𝐝𝐨𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐬, not a squeaker.

It landed on Truth Social this afternoon. President Trump announced that an agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran has been “𝘭𝘢𝘳𝘨𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘯𝘦𝘨𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥, 𝘴𝘶𝘣𝘫𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘻𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯” — a Memorandum of Understanding he framed as “𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘗𝘌𝘈𝘊𝘌”. And the line that moves the entire world economy: “𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘏𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘶𝘻 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘣𝘦 𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘥”.
He didn't get here alone. Trump said he had worked the phones with Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Bahrain, Turkey and Pakistan's Field Marshal Asim Munir — the entire regional bloc. A separate call with Prime Minister Netanyahu, he said, “𝘸𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘸𝘦𝘭𝘭”.
Understand why Tehran is suddenly at the table. 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞, 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥. After this spring's air war gutted Iran's nuclear sites, the regime tried to choke off Hormuz — boarding ships, laying mines, charging tolls. The U.S. answered with a naval blockade and an operation to escort merchant traffic out by force. The mullahs are negotiating from a crater.
Secretary of State Rubio, speaking from India, named the floor: 𝐧𝐨 𝐧𝐮𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐝, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 𝐨𝐟 𝐞𝐧𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐮𝐦 𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫. Trump put the odds at a “𝘴𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘥 50/50” and said the call on whether strikes resume comes tomorrow — the alternative, in his words, being to “𝘣𝘭𝘰𝘸 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 𝘵𝘰 𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘥𝘰𝘮 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦”.
Here's the catch, and it's a big one. Reporting indicates the 𝐧𝐮𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐮𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞, 𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐤𝐬 — and Israel is openly skeptical. Netanyahu's nightmare is exactly this: a deal that reopens Hormuz and lifts the pressure while leaving Iran's enriched uranium right where it sits.
My read: peace through strength is real, and it is the only thing that has ever moved this regime an inch. But a ceasefire is not a victory. The regime that armed H∗mas, H∗zbollah and the Houthis should not be handed a lifeline to rebuild — it should be handed a tombstone.
Reopen the Strait. Take the uranium. Give them nothing on the bomb. Anything softer just resets the clock to the next war.

For years the line has been that Saudi Arabia won't recognize Israel until the Palestinians get a state. According to evangelical leader and Trump ally Mike Evans, that was never the real story.

That's a senior administration official, relayed by Fox's Trey Yingst, drawing the hardest possible line on Iran's nuclear program.
The terms taking shape are not the Obama-style giveaway the critics feared. 𝐍𝐨 𝐞𝐧𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐝 — and the plan is to strip out all of Iran's enriched material so it “𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘢 𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘰 𝘢 𝘯𝘶𝘤𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘸𝘦𝘢𝘱𝘰𝘯”.
Sanctions relief is on the table, but only if Iran makes real concessions first. 𝐍𝐨 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐧𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐟.
Then there's the Strait of Hormuz. Iran floated charging tolls on the vessels that carry roughly 20% of the world's oil through the chokepoint. Washington's answer: “𝘸𝘦 𝘥𝘰 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬 𝘢 𝘵𝘰𝘭𝘭 𝘪𝘴 𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘤𝘤𝘦𝘱𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦”.
No nuke. No enrichment. 𝐍𝐨 𝐭𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝'𝐬 𝐨𝐢𝐥. That isn't appeasement.
