Hello Sadie, welcome to CChat! I'm glad that you found us and joined in the discussions with us :)

Along with the stories of Esther, Ruth and Jonah, I have a particular fondness for 1 Samuel 5-6, because in the midst of all the bad that was going on in that story, you really see clearly God's providential hand in it all, and I think you also get to see a bit of God's sense of humor too.

This is especially true in so many of the things that happened to the Philistines after they captured and took possession of the Ark of the Covenant .. from the 2 milch cows (who were yoked together, left their calves and returned the Ark directly to Israel w/o any human guidance), to the golden mice and golden tumors, to the scenes in Dagon's temple, the Philistine's god (where the priests of Dagon found his giant statue lying prostrate before the Ark every morning and who, in their best southern Philistine dialect yelled, "well dag-gone" every time they entered the temple and saw what had happened), 1 Samuel is interesting in many, many different ways :giggle: (ok, the business of the Dagon priests yelling "dag-gone" is just conjecture on my part, but when you read the account I think that you will agree that it could have happened 🤣).

It's pretty dark, but you may want to read 1 Samuel 4 too (not only to understand what's going on in Chapters 5-6, but also so you'll know why you should ~never~ name one of your children, Icabod :oops:).

Actually, I find all of 1 Samuel to be an especially interesting/wonderful read for a number of reasons.

Whoops, "Icabod" is actually spelled, "Ichabod". Sorry about that, but our five-minute editing window was up before I discovered it (it is helpful to use the preview button and really take a second look before posting here, because 5 minutes is quick, just FYI).

Hi SadieH glad to meet you, welcome to CC! I would have loved to be in the crowd when the boy, David, came out against the giant Goliath. I'm sure the enemy camp must have thought, we have this in the bag as they cheered him on. What they witnessed instead was the anointing of the Spirit of God upon David, making him more than a conqueror🙌
