Interesting that the Americans on here are jealous of New Zealand's govt doing this for our mountains and rivers so they can be protected, when their own government doesn't do anything to protect their women or unborn children.

No, actually that was my point in posting this.

Why does anything to do with New Zealand then get turned into something about the US on this forum? lol
Because even in NZ a baby doesn't have the rights they should have.

Anyhow since they don't live here, I won't try to explain it, because whatever I say won't make sense to them.
If you have an issue with it, whether it's conservation or abortion laws. --take it up with your government. Write to them!

Wow, Lanolin. Americans aren't jealous of mountains being protected. Lol. We're saying that it's ridiculous for an inanimate object to be granted the rights of a person while unborn humans are denied those same rights.

It's not an inaniminate object. It's a mountain!

Babies DO have rights, it's actually under the UN child's rights to live.

It's just people like abusing them and killing them.

Interesting the USA is the only country in the UN that has not ratified this. According to this website
USA bad!

I looked up the actual countries...you can see the US is orange here. Did you guys forget?

I see zero jealousy. People are simply pointing out the lunacy of granting a mountain sacred and legal "personhood" when it cannot and never will be a "person".

Since you brought this up, the U.S., like most western countries, has plenty of protections/conservation programs for land, parks, lakes, rivers, etc, so I don't know what you're even on about with that one. Fact: A mountain can be protected and preserved without claiming it's a person.

Abortion is legal in New Zealand, so I'm not sure why you brought that up, either. To sum up why the decision is ridiculous -

- Inanimate mountain: raised to sacred personhood to be protected
- Actual living unborn humans: degraded to disposable and unprotected

Anyhow since they don't live here, I won't try to explain it, because whatever I say won't make sense to them.

The Bible explains it just fine: A person is a God-created human being. I get that the NZ gov't is upholding a tribal viewpoint and they're absolutely free to do that. Likewise, we're free to discuss these issues from the Christian viewpoint on a Christian forum.

The UN and UNICEF [which is under the UN] support abortion.

UN Population Fund Statement: Access to legal and safe abortion services is essential to the attainment of the right to health, as recognized by WHO. Comprehensive abortion care includes information, goods, services, and facilities for safe abortion – which can be completed through medication or surgery – and the provision of post-abortion care. LINK

Joint statement by OHCHR, UNFPA, UNICEF, UN Women and WHO:
“States have an obligation to ensure that these injustices are addressed without exposing women to the risk of death or serious injury by denying them access to needed services such as safe abortion to the full extent of the law, and other healthcare services,” experts from the UN agencies warned.
LINK

UN Women: When safe and legal access to abortion is restricted, women are forced to resort to less-safe methods, too often with damaging or disastrous results—especially for women who are affected by poverty or marginalization, including minority women. LINK

UN Human Rights Committee Asserts that Access to Abortion and Prevention of Maternal Mortality are Human Rights:
The Center for Reproductive Rights welcomes and firmly supports the United Nations Human Rights Committee’s General Comment on the Right to Life. The language of the comment affirms that abortion is a human right, that preventable maternal deaths are a violation of the right to life, and that the right to life begins at birth. “This is an important affirmation which will provide strong support for our global advocacy, litigation, and research that defines and enforces abortion as a fundamental human right,” said Nancy Northup, President and CEO of the Center for Reproductive Rights.

I'm talking babies and children's rights.

Mothers also have rights.

Mountains are sacred. Mt Sinai? Mt of Olives? Sermon on the Mount? Mount Zion?

If you think that's insane then the whole Bible is insane, when it isn't.

Guess what happened when Jesus was born? All the children under 2 in Bethlehem were slaughtered. Not aborted,,,,slaughtered.

Check out this chapter in the Bible

Exodus 1:17-2:14

17 The midwives, however, feared God and did not do what the king of Egypt had told them to do; they let the boys live. 18 Then the king of Egypt summoned the midwives and asked them, “Why have you done this? Why have you let the boys live?”

19 The midwives answered Pharaoh, “Hebrew women are not like Egyptian women; they are vigorous and give birth before the midwives arrive.”

20 So God was kind to the midwives and the people increased and became even more numerous. 21 And because the midwives feared God, he gave them families of their own.

22 Then Pharaoh gave this order to all his people: “Every Hebrew boy that is born you must throw into the Nile, but let every girl live.”

So...know any midwives?
What you must do is give birth BEFORE the midwives arrive. Or not even have midwife lest your sons be thrown away. I am not sure what hospitals do now with babies they don't want. Is it the mothers choice? No it's the midwives.

Talk to the midwives. The US govt actually cannot force you to have an abortion.

I grew up in the 80s...and Madonna (from the USA) sang Papa Don't Preach

She was keeping HER baby.

That song was super popular. Young pregnant mothers actually were keeping their babies and raising them, so who exactly was trying to kill them? Not the government.

Anyway back to Mountains...

Definitely sacred in the Bible.
I can give you many passages.

What's actually beautiful, majestic and unique about our mountains, esp Mt Taranaki is that it's set apart from the rest.

The surrounding land is extremely fertile as its volcanic soil. Yes this mountain is a volcano which is now dormant. The green is the forest. There's a beautiful garden/park land around where rhododendrons grow. Each year they have a garden festival and I'm hoping to one day get there.

I'm talking babies and children's rights.

Post #64 you stated: "Babies DO have rights, it's actually under the UN child's rights to live."

False. The UN/UNICEF supports abortion, therefore they reject a babies' right to live.

Mountains are sacred. Mt Sinai? Mt of Olives? Sermon on the Mount? Mount Zion?

Which has nothing to do with the issue. A mountain is not a person. A mountain cannot achieve personhood. A mountain is inanimate while a person is a God-created human. The Bible does not recognize a mountain as a person.

Guess what happened when Jesus was born? All the children under 2 in Bethlehem were slaughtered. Not aborted,,,,slaughtered.

What is your point in relation to the discussion?

It's not an inaniminate object. It's a mountain!
Inanimate definition:
lacking the qualities or features of living beings; not animate; lacking any sign of life or consciousness

Didnt you say you were a teacher or a librarian or something? 😬

Volcanoes are alive.

This one's just dormant.

Ever been to a live one? I assure you you would not want to go to one when it's about to erupt. White Island tourists made a fatal mistake.

Aren't you a mother? You kept your babies? All 10? Nobody forced you to have an abortion did they?

Aren't you a mother? You kept your babies? All 10? Nobody forced you to have an abortion did they?
Ah, this smells like the old "If you dont want an abortion, don't have one" argument.
You know, a similar argument was made in the USA about slaves...

It's appalling that a Christian would be fine with killing an innocent unborn human being. Not only that but esteeming a big ROCK over a child made in God's image? That's extremely disappointing and sad.

Oh, and I mentioned your job because the assumption is that a teacher or librarian would have enough education to know the difference between the characteristics of living and non-living things. That's something we learn in, what? 3rd grade?

"The earth in which we live is made up of several things. These “things” can be categorized into two different types – Living and Non-living Things:
*All living things breathe, eat, grow, move, reproduce and have senses.
*Non-living things do not eat, grow, breathe, move and reproduce. They do not have senses."

A volcano is a non-living thing as it doesn't meet the scientific requirements for life. That makes it an inanimate thing aka object
