planets orbiting other stars are detected by carefully observing its luminosity. when a planet or some other body passes in front of it ((as it would if we're seeing from an angle close to the orbital ecliptic)) the luminosity dips.
this is actually easier than detecting dark planets in the darkness of space orbiting Sol. easier, that is, so long as you have very sensitive equipment. which we are blessed to have, these days, but didn't have, not very long ago. hence the explosion of new planets orbiting other stars being discovered in the last decade: Earthlings got a new telescope. yay!
you can learn a surprising amount about things by looking very closely at the light it emits and/or reflects.
an infrared telescope is not the only way to detect a brown dwarf, particularly if it is orbiting as a tenth ((yeah, that's right, i'm pro-Pluto)) planet. the outer planets were all detected because the orbits of the planets can be very reliably and accurately predicted. they can also be very accurately observed - and when the observation doesn't match prediction, astronomers start looking at why. one major plausible reason is gravitational of another orbiting body. that can be calculated and tracked, and point you to a pretty good estimate of where and how big something ought to be. that's how we found neptune, uranus, pluto.
there's no gravitational evidence that a brown dwarf ((which ought to be larger than jupiter to qualify as a brown dwarf -- jupiter's almost int eh same category as such a body, but not quite)) is opposite the earth in the same orbit. evidecne would be in the form of sizeable discrepancies between Keppler's formulae predictions for orbits of the planets and observation.
course, as a conspiracy theorist, a person is apt to say, there's evidence just nobody knows about it. nobody but us conspiracy theorists. and no we can't show you. too dangerous. gubberment ill gettus. ya know.
the LUCI telescope in Arizona wasn't built by the Vatican; it was built by the Max Planck Institute and the Vatican didn't have anything to do with naming it, and doesn't have anything to do with operating it. they don't even partly own it. they happen to share a space at the observatory site that's it. they don't own the observatory. that's how observatories work; they are few and far between and many institutions have stakes in them. astronomers have to petition for time at them and for where to point the telescopes. Jesuits run and operate the place next-door to the LUCI telescope.
according to the MPI website, the name was chosen as a partial acronym for LBT Near Infrared Spectroscopic Utility with Camera and Integral Field Unit for Extragalactic Research. yes, they like catchy names. it's just easier to remember that way. they shortened the name to LUCI probably after some youtube conspiracy videos and anti-catholic websites got some catholics upset.
Wikipedia only lists the top 6 biggest infrared telescopes on earth. LUCI is not among them ((definitely not the biggest)). the James Webb ((Hubble's planned replacement)) will carry the largest infrared telescope mankind's ever built. i'm not aware of the Vatican being behind the funding for it. Mauna Kea had the largest one on earth for decades, but apparently it was surpassed by the VISTA collector in Chile. in Chile, also, the "Extremely Large Telescope" is being built right now, which will be the largest on earth. not aware of any Papal funding there, either, by the way.
maybe you could point me to where your source for the LUCI telescope being the largest infrared telescope ever . .? the MPI website says it has a primary mirror over 11m, and uses binocular lensing, so it's effective field is twice as big, but it doesn't mention being the biggest. having a large mirror doesn't mean its infrared sensor is just as large as the mirror though; a telescope can collect light on multiple wavelengths simultaneously with different attached instruments. the optical observation might use a very large reflector and the UV a much smaller one, for example.
it's curious that the Institute that runs the telescope doesn't say anything about it being the biggest in the world, if it really is. usually that's something they would like to mention on their website, right??

i put in the post above, though it's pretty long so maybe you won't see -- more often than anything else planets are detected around other stars because of the dip in the light that's observed when one passes in front of it. this is a lot easier than detecting gravitational wobble in a star's position, tho that's also possible to do. detecting planets via wobble only really works for very big planets. like, bigger than jupiter, mostly. jupiter is really really big, if anyone isn't aware..
we ((mankind)) detected influence of unaccounted-for gravity on planets in our own solar system, and inferred that for example Neptune must be out there, did some calculations to guess where, and started looking in the right direction. and found it. different scenario.
Hubble telescope actually did manage to get an optical-light photograph of a planet around another star, in 2008.

since that time, Hubble has been able to image and study a lot more exoplanets.

its not a collision...this time. Even just flying by at a distance would shift the mantle (islands move), asteroids dragged hit earth (stars falling), atmosphere dragged back (sky rolled back like scroll).
Do you really think I just shoot from the hip...seriously? The bible is clear....there will be very fearful sights and signs in the heavens<---PLURAL, the sun and moon shall be shaken and men will drop dead from fear and looking up at the things COMING upon the earth.......maybe you're wrong in your assessment and or belief? And make no mistake....I do not just go off on some whim when it comes to what I believe....I weigh EVERYTHING and have no problem calling crap crap.........NOR have I explicitly stated that I believe in planet X.....just that there are historic records that point to a massive 10th planet, the bible supports massive EVENTS in the heavens and for sure catastrophic events that decimate humanity and the planet......and to be honest, your not that bright or deceived if you think for one minute that the governments of the world do not hide crap from the people...........serious!
The thing I find interesting about how God works....he consistently uses the earth and or creation to wreak havoc and or bring judgment....such as drought, disease, famine, earthquakes, flood, volcanoes, nations dia war, etc......it is not beyond reason that God could use a massive celestial body to wreak havoc upon the earth....just saying......
