This was mentioned in another thread, I though it would be a good topic.

Nightmares
What were some scary dreams you had as a kid that you'd like to share? (Or now, if you are still experiencing nightmares). Why do you think that kids are more prone to nightmares than adults?

The only one I vividly remember to this day was really weird. I was tied up and being sacrificed in some weird tribal ritual and the method of death was by poisonous spider. I remember waking up and not sleeping the rest of night. I still have nightmares on occasion but not very often and they are pretty forgettable. More jolt me awake then i fall back asleep and forget about them.

You don't want to hear my nightmares. What's wrong with good old fashioned fantasaical dreams?

I used to have this reoccuring dream that I was in this black void that seemed to go on forever. There was this rollarcoaster there, the track led into shadow. For some reason, I was always convinced to sit in one of the carts. Once in, the cart filled with cement all the way up to my shoulders so I couldn't move. I was stuck going going around and around on the same track in the void, alone for eternity. Like an own personal hell. However, this one time, I decided not to fall for it and wouldn't go into the cart, then the dream was over lol

disclaimer: didn't post this to be negative or focus on bad dreams. I thought it would be neat to realize how silly the dreams were. Maybe hear some stories of overcoming the bad ones? :)

I used to have a problem of not knowing if I was dreaming or awake.

I would have a dream about being somewhere in the wild and avoiding snakes, only to slip into a semi-conscious state of being in my bed and awake yet with my waking eyes, still dreaming. I would sit up in my bed and my pillow would be covered in snakes.

Or, I was have a dream that I was in class in school. And I would slowly wake enough to no longer be in class but, to have my whole class in my bedroom surrounding my bed.

As an adult, when I dream I believe no power can hurt me so I am neither afraid nor fully participating in my dreams.

Any more my dreams represent my heart voicing some thing that I am failing to admit to myself. Like if I'm dating someone and I know its not going to work because of some aspect of our relationship, my dreams will be recurring themes of how that aspect is suppose to work and how it feels when its right. Like for instance if in my relationship, I feel misunderstood and unheard about what is deeply important to me, I will have a recurring dream with a childhood friend where we freely and openly "get it" and I am reminded of how amazing it feels to be understood. Only to wake up to the reality that there is no possibility of that level of understanding.

I once had a nightmare that I slept through a final exam. Oh, the horror!
Kids being more prone to nightmares than adults probably have to do with their developing brain and curious imagination.
At that stage they are exploring the world distinguishing between imaginary and reality so it's not unusual to experience nightmares.

As a child I would constantly dream that I needed to help my sister and keep her from falling from a skyscraper, and would always fall off myself, but wake up before I hit the ground.

As an adult, I rarely dream, but have often dreamt that I am still in high school and there is an exam I didn't know about and I'm freaking out.

I've never had a classic nightmare. Being an occasional lucid dreamer helps.

I had a dream I was in a concentration camp, but it lasted about two seconds. I thought "okay, time for the Allies to show up."
Before I knew it a Canadian GI and his pet monkey were handing me a Hershey bar and a can of beer.

Never said my dreams were normal. :P

as a child i had nitemares about godzilla coming up over a near by mountain to get me, when i was a teenager i had dreams of starting to walk across the street an seeing a white ford falcon comng down the road toward me and for some dumb reason it was hard for me to walk across the street....i would usually wake up before the car got anywhere near me
I dream as an adult, usually in color, i"ve heard them called "Pizza Dreams" if you eat pizza too late at night before going to bed....or if you eat too much in general before going to bed, you have some very weird dreams. an depending on your state of mind before falling asleep is what directions your dreams take
For me personally, I love pizza, it makes me happy, a hot piece of pizza and an ice cold soda pop, will give me pleasant dreams.

The scariest dream ive ever had was i was in my bed and everything looked exactly the same in reality in this grudge kid creepy thing was in the corner of my room and it pounced on my leg and i couldnt do anything i was completely paralized i was really scary.... But i think kids have more nightmares because of there imagination and that could slip its way into there dreams

That part reminds me of a song a Vietnam vet made up...but I can't post it on CC :D

"I once had a nightmare that five angry bald ducks broke into my bedroom and started attacking my pillows because they wanted their feathers back."

That is not my nightmare, but I heard a stand-up comedian tell that joke years ago, and it still makes me laugh - lol.

I had another dream in the dark void. In the darkness stood a small girl in front of me, she was dressed in this pretty dress. She stood there starring and smiling at me. But I knew that she was evil inside. I had to keep starring at her or these boulders would come and crush her.

I had this recurring dream for years and years where i would be walking as normal along the street, then i would turn the corners and the corners became more and more until i was in some kind of spiral.. then the ground wouldn't be beneath my feet and it was dark. Some times there would be variations.. like i would be hanging in space on boxes of different sizes, some of the boxes had houses on them. Weird. But what always happened.. after going through the dark spiral, always always there was a light at the end and i would always wake up, i never saw what was beyond the light.. i stopped having the dream when i got saved.

Did they look like the color of Angry Birds?

That sounds like something out of a movie. I just can't remember which one.

I dream AAAALLLLLLLLLLL the time. Usually, my dreams are some epic adventure about saving people and defeating some great evil. It's always a different story/scenario, but always about saving the world. Then I have some very very random dreams as well. And the occasional dream from God that speaks volumes into my life.

There was one time that I dreamt about nothing but abortion for a month straight and spent many hours praying about it. That was interesting. Abortion dreams are very sad and I woke up many mornings crying.

When I was a kid up until I was about 19 or 20, my greatest fear was my dad dying, so most of my nightmares were about him dying and usually it was to save me and my sisters. There were lots of dreams about him being martyred. Several times in dreams I'd have to choose between saving him or saving my sister and I always chose my sister because I knew it was what he would want. There was one Sunday when my pastor said something that stuck out so vividly in my mind. He said, "That which you fear the most can become your god." and I immediately knew that my greatest fear was my dad dying and that it constantly consumed my thoughts. That day, I gave that fear to the Lord and told Him that I would trust Him with my dad's life, my family's lives and my own. I haven't had a dream about my dad dying ever since. :)

Fear can be a very powerful thing in one's life. Don't let it consume you for anything!
