Non Christian Music gives me more Hope than Christian

Does what a lot better? Exalt Christ? Praise God for His goodness and blessings to us? I'm highly doubtful. Very highly doubtful. It seems like you are wanting to use music to know God, but you just haven't found the RIGHT kind of music. I had the same issue when I became a Christian.

brings me hope, that's what it does man...right kind? im a musician and as such i listen to the best there is. no matter if its Christian or not best musicians are found in the world, and only a few are Christians...so to become a great musician i will learn from the best, i dont stand by mediocrity. worship music is to worship and it's supposed to be simple. that simpleness doesn't help become a better singer, guitarist, bassist or drummer..now, since you didnt listen the song, because only a weak fool would block YouTube, you wouldnt understand why i say this Band gives me more hope the Christian Music, making everything you say invaluable to me. Killswitch Engage is the most positive band of this generation and they aren't Christian.

PS: i'm a Heavy Metal fan, and most of the Christian Bands today aren't nearly as good as KSE, except a few like As I Lay Dying, August Burns Red, The Showdown and War of Ages...the rest is just boring and lacks emotion

Have you considered that being a secular musician is almost certainly not what God's plan for your life is? And there is a reason why Christian rock isn't satisfying your flesh? Christian music is NOT supposed to appeal to your flesh! And it seems like that is what you are seeking after. You want Christian music to appeal the way Godless secular music does.


I go back to 1 John 2:15-17, a good verse I would recommend applying to your life.

15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
1 John 2:15-17 (KJV)

Also Romans 12:1-2

1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Man its just not good music...same reason why i cant listen to some worshiping songs, is just bad music...btw Rock is music just as a hymn...i just cant stand simplistic music and simplistic lyrics...i need complexity, it has to make me pounder. btw i use some rock songs to worship

i wanna go with you to the basics of Christianity, what is a sin??

I knew this would turn into a debate about whether its a sin to listen to non-christian music or not lol. Christians are sometimes extremely predictable.
 
There's a difference between "secular" music and "unGodly" music. Like A LOT. I'm pretty sure it takes pretty much bashing God to be un-Godly, but just no mention of God/Jesus/praise to be "secular." Secular music is fine and some secular songs have the best messages out there, even when compared to Christian music. (Where is the Love, Waiting on the World to Change, etc)

I don't think there is any better message out there than Jesus Christ died for our sins so we can have eternal life. I think any other message in music comes up far short in comparison. Where is the Love? No one can truly love because God is love, so the love is with and from God. And why are we waiting on the world to change? Because they need to be born again by receiving Jesus Christ. Unfortunately neither of those songs reflect the truth about those 2 things.
 
to be honest it's just music... I rarely listen to Christian music because all in all (apart from hymns of course and a few exceptions) most christian songs suck in my opinion, I praise god when I pray and when I attend church and every day, I don't have to listen to rubbishy songs.

OH you are so right... I despise people calling certain genre's a sin because of the their associations.
 
Yeah, i listened to KsE a lot year ago. I think the thing that caused me to lose interest in them the most was the live concert/behind the scenes DVD of the band. Basically their lives were just filled with drinking constantly. And the jokes about having sex with 14 year old girls, that were made from the stage in front of a giant audience, really killed my interest in them too. So while their lyrics do preach a positive message (though that message is founded mostly in mans strength, not Gods) the other message is 'drinking & sex with underage girls is great'. Thats not so positive.
Also, yes, i'm aware Adam has sobered up & of the Times of Grace CD. But that doesn't negate the messages they gave from the stage in the past.
Finally i find this sudden turn against Christian music odd, since you're the guy who's been posting youtube links to Christian bands & extolling them & how great they are. You seemed to get few or no responses or attention, now you've suddenly reversed your stance & gotten the attention you were after. So which one is the way you really believe?
 
Alright well TDWP- I listened to that killswitch engage song, still wasnt my favorite. THis Fire Burns is fantastic though. And I agree with you, most of christian is just terrible musicianship. There isn't anyway around it.
FSU- Thats always been my argument. Like whats wrong with matchbox 20? they arent christian but they arent some terrible ungodly satan band either.
Crypto- I checked out your links...no offense man if thats your thing, but they were downright terrible. I dont even know of any churches that plays stuff that bad anymore.
 
I'll throw my two cents in here.

I used to listen to mainly secular music because I didn't "like" most Christian music. One day, a mentor of mine talked to me about it. I can't remember which verse she quoted, but she told me to live with a spirit of praise.

I listen mainly to Christian music now. For me, it brings a balance to my soul. I feel centered when I'm thinking about God most of the day.
