PSALM 78
34 When he slew them, then they sought him: and they returned and enquired early after God.
35 And they remembered that God was their rock, and the high God their redeemer.
36 Nevertheless they did flatter him with their mouth, and they lied unto him with their tongues.
37 For their heart was not right with him, neither were they steadfast in his covenant.
38 But he, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them not: yea, many a time turned he his anger away, and did not stir up all his wrath.
39 For he remembered that they were but flesh; a wind that passeth away, and cometh not again.
ONE STEP FORWARD, TWO STEPS BACK
Psalm 78 is a wonderful psalm; it is very long and it tells the history of the children of Israel. It is a story of going forward one step and then taking two steps back.
GOD is so forgiving to us; these verses tell us that they went after other God's, but he restored them.
Let me ask you, are you like those in these verses?
Does God discipline us?
Do we return to Him?
Do we flatter him with our mouths?
God rescued the children of Israel throughout the book of Judges and the people returned to him for a while, but then they went after other god's as soon as the judge was dead. It was not true repentance; we can be like this.
God said that the people honour him, with their mouths, but their hearts are far from him. I wonder if we/I are like this?
I love the phrase in verse 38:
yea, many a time turned he his anger away
So many times, I must have angered him, so often I have grieved his heart, the only reason, he hasn't cast me off and destroyed me is:
JESUS
Because of what Jesus has done for us, we can say that despite our wandering heart, the words in verses 38-39, that God has turned away his anger and been compassionate to us.
He knows that we are like chaff, we are here today and gone tomorrow, we are restored to him, not because of anything we have done, but because of his grace, mercy and love poured out upon us.
But to do that we poured out his righteous wrath on the one, who he loved.
Oh, the glory of salvation.

PSALM 139
14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
15 My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.
17 How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!
IN SECRET
Many people seek identity in today's society, they have no idea:
Why they are here?
Who their father/mother was?
God has seen everything, he knew us, even before we were born, we saw us in our mother's womb.
This psalm, should be and is a wonderful comfort to every believer.
You may not know, who your biological parents are, but know this, if you are in CHRIST. You have a heavenly Father who loves and adores you.
If we go on into verse 18, the thoughts of God towards you are like the sand of the Sahara, these thoughts are good thoughts. Jermiah 29:11-13
So, your heavenly father knows all about where you come from, he knows all the hurt, all the pain and know this, it is not where you come from that matters:
IT IS WHERE YOU ARE GOING TO
and if you are saved, you are going to be with Jesus.. forever.
Amen
God bless you
