Okay, so..

since I have now been to the summer cottage few times in this summer, first time in ages I felt so nostalgic, maybe it is because that was my dad’s cottage. He actually used to live there back in the days, and it is not for winter living and he did live there in the winter time also..

It got me thinking, what are the things other people find nostalgic in their life?

The cottage, yes, it is a rundown cottage, in it’s original 70’s state (and I love it for that! I don’t want a high-end luxury ones, although this one could use some serious repairs...), it does have electricity and cold water from the lake (waterpump not in use this year), and a outhouse of course (proper cottage experience!).
Drinkable water needs to be brought, either from a spring near by or from home.

But for me, that shabby looking old cottage brought so much nostalgia, as we used to live there every summer when I was a kid. Mom would grow veggies in the garden, flower beds were in full bloom.. now there is a small forest growing in the garden and flower beds are so dry almost nothing grows in there.
Dad would go to work when he did not have his holi-- vacation month, if he had vacation (or after he got laid off, yeah, the 90's..) he would fish or make boats. We would take trips with a boat (a small row boat with small engine attached to the back), there would be rugs in the bottom of the boat so on longer trips my brother and I could lay down and sleep, maybe we went to look the rock paintings far away. Swimming all summer long (no matter the weather), oh the good times! Well, had to pick bilberries, lingonberries and mushrooms with my parents too, back in the day, those weren’t the greatest parts of the summer. Now, I mostly do that, run in the forest hunting for mushrooms and picking berries..

But for now, even the cottage road brought memories to me, but that hill was bigger back then.. Looking throught the storage shed, seeing all the old things, my dad’s handwriting and his electrical stuff, some old phone center-thingy..
Just looking out of the cottage window towards the lake I almost could hear the evening weather broadcasters voice telling the weather for the seaside areas (which I have no idea why I only remember the seaside area forecast).

Now, I counted, 44 different sized steps from the lake to the sauna and that is one thing we used to run up and down when we were kids, my brother and I. How did we stay uninjured?

Steps.jpg
This year as the water pump is not in use, so I had to run (did NOT run) up and down with buckets (cottage would need some more buckets.. :sneaky:) to fill the water tank in the sauna. I think it would be good to live there for the whole summer, I would get good work out.

I saw this ide in the lake from the pier, brought to my mind one night when my dad and brother went gigging in the shore. Don't remember if they actually caught anything.. Or fishing with a rod made from a tree branch, that I used to love.. now, putting a worm to a hook is too much for me....

So, what are things that bring back nostalgia for you? Or nothing does?

Pictures, smells, places, people, or...?

What is nostalgic to you?
What kind of memories/stories does it bring back to you?

Sim City.

It was on the first dinosaur computer we ever had. Someone gave it to mom. It was ancient when we got it, but I had never had a computer before.

Don't even know who gave mom that thing, but I blame him for the rest of my life. I spent a few years of finding old computers, cleaning them up and giving them to people too.

Sim City always makes me remember all those songs my sister was listening to while I was playing. Bleh. She had terrible taste. Thought gangsta rap was cool, she did.

Of course I found ways to cheese the game. You can start with nothing and build a city, but I liked to start with a disaster scenario - Nuclear power plant explosion, tornado, Godzilla rampage - Then you repair the town afterward. I started the nuclear power plant explosion, but I paused time right at the start. Then I deleted all the nuclear power plants and built coal power plants. Then I had a big prebuilt city to play with, and no messy disaster to clean up.

everythi ng. literally everything.
I have suppressed to many things.that almost anything can trigger flashbacks.

Certain locations bring back lots of nostalgia, like the location where my grandparents had their cottage or the neighborhood I grew up in. Sometimes I'll go on google maps and just look at my old home--it definitely wasn't all sunshine and roses, there were a lot of issues, but it was still home. Or the old church I used to take dance lessons in, it was a simpler time in every way.

Certain Christmas songs throw me right back to the good old days. My favorite one being "It Must Have Been the Mistletoe (Our First Christmas)" by Barbara Mandrell. Not sure why I loved that song so much considering I was a literal child and it's a love song, but it is what it is lol.

Old TV shows bring that nostalgic feeling and comfort--Saved by the Bell, Family Matters, Home Improvement, and other late 80s and 90s shows.

The 90s were my favorite decade, so things from that era are nostalgic for me.

Nostalgia..

The last time I drove through my hometown, I drove past the places I spent most of my time as a kid, then a teenager...

The old store (closed many years ago) where I used to walk nearly every Saturday morning to get my coke and corn chips. There was a brick wall where I would sit and even it is gone now.

The front yard where many of us played football etc..

The steps at one house where I sat with my girlfriend of that time.

The street I used to ride bikes or skateboards.

The trees where we had a number of forts and other hideouts.

My grandparents old house. The memories here are many. The tree I used to climb is still there. My grandmothers old fig tree is not as big as it was. The porch my Grandad took many naps on.

The high school I do NOT miss. I hated school with a passion! 😁

I could go on, but I'll stop there! 😁

The time stamp says you made it this past Wednesday at 3:02 am 🤓

I'm sorry you have so many triggers but it should get better with time. Work on each issue as The Lord brings it to your attention and pretty soon you'll look back amazed at how far He's brought you.

'Twas grace that brought us safe thus far, and grace shall lead us home.

For whatever its worth, I don't even know you that well and I'm already proud of you for the progress you've made. Keep up the good work! 😎👍

Waking from an afternoon nap, watching the wind blowing the tree leaves and the yellow sky carry me back to the afternoons of my childhood that I can never return... ☺️

And travelling at night with soft music playing...🌅

My grandma and grandads old house , my aunty lives in it now and it's next door to where my mum lives . My grandparents raised 5 children in that house . That's a lot of in laws and cousins etc that have been in that house over the years , aside from their own brothers and sisters and nieces and nephews etc . I love that house .

Sorry for my super late comeback here, but thank you all for answering 😅😁 It was interesting to hear what other people find nostalgic!

Christmas with Family.

Do you have huge family gathering Christamas? Like almost every relative comes to spend time? 😊

How big was it if it was ancient? What operating system it had? First computer I remember (don't know if it was the first computer we had..) had Windows 3.11, now, few years back I heard my brother took it somewhere to get rid of it.. I was like: it. was. mine. But anyway, it was just a computer... with all DOS games in it..:cautious:

Is nostalgia something that you would not want to feel? Completely sad feeling or something? ❤️

Ha! Now it is more than a month!😁

It sure is nice to drive past of along the old street where you grew up, even if it would look different nowaways.:)
Is the store building gone too long the wall?
Are there people who actually loved school? :D Well, I liked the first grade...

Houses sure can bring up a bunch of memories! Must be nice that you can still visit that house😊
