i saw some laws in levitcus, do not cut off the hair on the sides of your head or clip off the edges of our beardm do not cut your self for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselfs. I am the Lord. Rise in the presence of the aged, show respect for the elderly and revere for your God. I am the Lord.
what does this mean its in the bible does that mean we as chritans have to obey these laws?
i know paul washer(youtube) a christian makes his son obey that last one but are these laws for us (christian) to obey?
The hair cutting does not apply to today. Those specific laws were unique to the time they lived.
Today though, the law is still in effect in general. Jesus said He came not to condemn the law
but to confirm it.
The laws of the Old Testament were laws given by God under the law of blood. There was no
way to forgive sin in the Old Testament days. So they sacrificed animals to cover it up so God
could look at them. Under the law, no sin can be forgiven except by the shedding of blood.
The law was confirmed in Christ when He came to be the ultimate, only and last blood
sacrifice required of God for the forgiveness of sin.
Also, under the law, no one but the high priest could approach God and only once a year. If
a high priest got any of the commandments God included in the law wrong, God killed them
immediately.
Under the new covenant, Jesus enforced the Old Testament laws but became the Eternal
High Priest that allows use direct access to God. Now that Christ has become the final blood
offering for sin, we no longer need to keep the laws of the Old Testament in regard to the
forgiving of sin. All other spiritual aspects remain and are still active today.
Once Jesus came, we no longer need to be circumcised to prove we are a Believer. But all
the laws regarding how we treat others, how we treat other Christians and how we live
our lives are still in place.
The biggest problem with the Jews - and the one that got Jesus crucified - was that Jesus
taught against the Old Testament ways of blood sacrifice. Jesus taught He was God in
human form which no Jew would ever accept. They still don't. Even after Christ returns
to rapture the Church, they still do not believe. Only after the anti-christ fools them and
Christ steps in to save them do the Jews believe.
Jesus took the entire Old Testament law and condensed it in one law - Love your neighbor
as yourself. Once Jesus died, He gave the commandment to go unto all the world telling
them of His Gift of Eternal Life. Instead of spending all our time trying to worship and
cover our sins with blood offerings, Jesus said He would be our blood offering and we are
now to spend our time spreading His Word to the world.
To me, I still feel tattoos are not for Christians but many had them before they were saved.
I think the primary concern in regard to tattoos is that if people are accustomed to tattoos,
they may see nothing wrong with taking the mark of the beast. Once a person has the mark
of the beast, they are condemned. Many may take the mark out of ignorance of God's Laws
but once they do, its too late.
Its sort of like a child that has never seen a gun before. But once it is fired, the results are
the same regardless of what the child knows. God holds us accountable to know His Word and
His requirements. Taking the mark of the beast just because you were hungry is something
God will not forgive.
Many do not understand that this time we live in is the time of grace. Your sins are forgiven.
But after the rapture and the start of the tribulation, the only way to be saved is to meet
the current requirements of believing in Christ but with one significant addition. Once in
the tribulation, you must die to get to heaven. Today, all those going to heaven are under
grace and will go to heaven even if alive if Christ appears in the clouds.
Now is the time to accept Christ's Gift of Eternal Life while it is free in a sense. Once the
tribulation starts, it has a price.
That's why we sing the song - Blessed are those that freely choose You now. Once the
tribulation starts, getting to heaven really does mean as the Bible says - you must die
to yourself.
