Now tell me KennethC what about the Thief of the cross? He did not read the Bible. He had no knowledge of everything Jesus said. All he had was Faith that Jesus Christ was God.
Luke 23:39-43
[SUP]39 [/SUP] Then one of the criminals who were hanged blasphemed Him, saying, "If You are the Christ, save Yourself and us."

The Thief went with Jesus which proves all we need is Faith to receive Salvation not works and Faith.

Ephesians 2:8-9

Its Faith and Faith alone that saves us. What we do later is not for Salvation but for our Rewards in Heaven.

Jesus said clearly that the will of the Father is to BELIEVE UPON HIM whom he hath SENT.....FAITH in JESUS!
I'm not obsessed with Mary. Its KennethC who sounds a lot like what the Catholic Church teaches.

He has about 5 or 6 years of a Catholic background, but denies that it infected his belief system and or influences his belief of a working for salvation that he does not currently possess!
The Baptist church I grew up in taught just about the same thing.... and the CoC I went to for more than a decade CERTAINLY did.

Because Calvin expounded his doctrine from Augustine's eternal security of the 4th century, and Calvin stated the same thing that Augustine said that falling away is impossible.
The bible rejects that as it shows that falling away is possible, and even the Holy Spirit Himself says in later time many will depart from the faith do to following after false teaching. (1 Timothy 4) And Apostle Paul says in this same chapter that only by continuing in the faith will you be saved, meaning those who depart are not or no longer saved.
Apostle Paul also said in that same chapter if you instruct other believers of the dangers of false teaching and not being lead away by them we would be good ministers of Jesus Christ. Which means those who instruct that falling away or departing is impossible are bad/false teachers.
There are to many issues with his doctrine that does not align with the scriptures that can not go into now, but what I can say is that when I did an early church history study of the first few centuries of the church. Out of all the ones I was lead to by the Holy Spirit and read from the first 3 centuries did not defend eternal security or OSAS. They taught the opposite !!!
I have about 40 years of sitting under that "law" teaching, and I am probably one of the farthest from believing it that you will ever meet.

The thief on the cross is not an example of the new covenant, nor is his example to be taken as an example to say you can live however you want.
There are standards the Lord said we are to still uphold in the new covenant which started at His death, and the thief was forgiven by the Lord before He died. The thief is an example of His mercy of those who ask for forgiveness on their death bed, not one who lives their whole life for the Lord.
I was born and raised in the Catholic Church and i spent years of having what the Catholic Church teaches drilled into me. I can tell if a person has been influenced with the teachings of the Catholic Church and KennethC sounds a lot like the Catholics.
By the Grace of God i was brought OUT of the Catholic Church into a True Church that taught directly from the Scriptures only. Its has took me 20 years to overcome the false teachings of the Catholic Church. And another 20 years to study and learn the Truth from God in the Scriptures only!
Everything i read and study is first compared to what the Holy Spirit says in the Scriptures. If it does not agree with God says then i toss it out.
The Scriptures is the Gold Standard we are to use!

Yes I deny it because the whole time I was in the Catholic church for those 5 years I questioned what they did, I did not defend or accept anything they did that did not align with the word.
Just like I won't accept the teachings that come from Augustine and Calvin that don't align with the scriptures either.
Some of you act like you are better then the Catholic's just because of the denominations you are in, but that is the same as the Pharisee saying think God I am not like these other sinners.
You don't even realize some of things you all follow came out of the apostasy that happened within the Catholic church from the 4th century on. You are to busy focusing on what they teach that is false or their planks, and are not removing the splinter that is in your own eye.
I left that church because of their false doctrine teachings, not accepted what they taught.
And just for a heads up in the RCIA classes they taught on scripture only about 5% of the time. Most of it was their version of false history......
Amen to that and to say that the thief was not an example of the new covenant belief is moronic and only used to defend the heresy they teach...Jesus said the LAW and the Prophets were until JOHN.....John was LONG dead when the thief was crucified with Jesus and the Church had been spoken of in the present tense no less than two or three times....such foolishness comes from some of these unbelievers!

Whatever, as I said to Dcon I was only in it for 5 years and in that time they did very little scripture teaching.
It was mostly their false history of their church, and anytime scripture came up I questioned and tested it by the Word of God. I did not just accept it or let it influence my stance in the faith.
I go by the Holy Spirit's guidance and the Word of God alone for my understanding in His ways.
You then said what the Holy Spirit says in the scriptures; Do you believe the Holy Spirit only speaks to us through the word (bible), or do you believe He also speaks to us personally ???
I ask that because I know He speaks to me personally as well when I don't even have the bible opened.
I could be out in the field mowing, fishing, or cutting down trees and I will hear Him say something to me to either speak on or go take a look at.
No what you don't understand by what I said is there is a difference between one who accepts Jesus as Lord and Savior at an early age and lives out the rest of their life in that faith, and a person who comes to finally accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior on their death bed.
That person who has a genuine repentance on their death bed could have been one of the most vial sinners but they would still be forgiven. However the person who accepts Jesus as Lord and Savior early in life can not continue to live as that vial sinner they once were before putting their faith in Him.

You can deny all you want Kenneth, yet what you believe is similar to what they teach...a non-possessed salvation and eternal life until after a life of sacramental obeisance.....a working for salvation that you do not currently possess!

No as Hebrews 9:16 says that in order for the new covenant to come into affect there had to be a death of the testator (Jesus).

I believe and trust in what the Holy Spirit and the Word of God through Jesus and the Apostles say.
Not man made doctrines and man made teaching systems that have corrupted the word of God since the 4th century.
Once again to make John 3:16, 3:36, and 6:47 something other than an immediate mental possession is to take and make Jesus words contradict with Apostle Paul and Peter's teachings that salvation is the ending result of our faith that we seek and hope to receive.
So either Jesus was right and Peter and Paul were wrong, or all three were right which means eternal life/salvation being ours now is in an immediate mental assurance state.
