Ok, so this is a thread just for movie suggestions. And I don't mean movies that you'll see right away for long periods of time in a movie theater. But the ones that are really good and you might not see in the movie theater, or the ones that might make it to the theater but are a little bit off the norm.

So, my first suggestion is a movie with John and Joan Cusack in it, called "The Martian Child." It's about a man who adopts a little boy who believes he's from Mars. It's a movie I think everyone who works with children should see.

Les Miserables with Liam Neeson. Its way deeper than the Musical in theaters now.

I highly recommend watching The Cove. Its a documentary about Dolphins.

Winged Migration (2001)- It goes by a couple other names in different countries. Its a documentary of birds filmed over four years on seven continents. It was nominated for an Academy Award. Its really breathtaking and beautiful. This trailer doesn't do it justice.

March of The Penguins (2005) - This is a National Geographic documentary that was filmed by two people in Antarctica over a year. Also breathtaking, and this one will keep you on the edge of your seat as the story of these penguins unfolds in this deadly and dangerous place. Once again, the trailer fails to do it justice.

Many indie movies are off the wall- this is one I seen a few year back about a tire named Robert that goes around killing people...If you like those type of movies, probably along the lines of Bruce Campbell movies. The plot sounds pretty promising, but the movie doesn't deliver. It gets repetitive and boring near the end. They could have done a better job.

Wow, image is larger than I expected :s

Speaking of Bruce Campbell movies, this is an interesting one- Bubba Ho-Tep

"Elvis and JFK, both alive and in nursing homes, fight for the souls of their fellow residents as they battle an ancient Egyptian Mummy"

A really good way of seeing movies for free is go to your local library and see if the have it. Martian Child was at our library, so it might be in others.

What if you don't really care for romantic movies?

Watch action movies.

I confess, I do. I don't mind some romance movies, but the majority to me are um, can't put it into to words, because there are no words to describe them. I rather watch, Sci Fi, Action, Mystery, etc. and an occasional drama.

I'm a bit of a movie buff (music too), and have years worth of thousands of films occupying a portion of my brain. That said, it depends on what you mean by or would define as 'off the wall'. All the movies listed so far fit into their respective genres.

(and the Sean of the Dead postsr is misleading. It's basically a comedy, has some rough language, and is not your typical zombie movie, but actually makes fun of them.)

If you literally want a zombie romance movie....it's coming out next month. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1588173/

The great gatsby. It was made in 1977.

Slingblade

Crimson wing ( documentary on flamingos)

Mandela's Children (Documentary on different kids being raised in South Africa)

Agora (A movie set in Roman times, the life of the first woman astronomer Hypatia)

I'll submit some foreign ones.

Das Leben Der Anderen (The Lives of Others)

Der Baader Meinhof Komplex (The Baader Meinhof Complex)

They deal with two different strains of Post-War Communism and have the same beautiful actress, Martina Gedeck.

Saw one last night called "The Beaver" staring Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster.
It's about a guy who speaks through a puppet beaver.
It's clearly autobiographical in a metaphoric way of what Gibson has recently gone through.
Highly recommend it.

This... was depressing. I gotta say, Jodie Foster did an excellent job at directing the movie for what it was. But, the story itself was a little odd. Made me think she could do a horror film.
