Often misunderstood part of the Bible (Romans 7:14-25)

14. For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin. 15. For that which I do I know not: for not what I would, that do I practise; but what I hate, that I do. 16. But if what I would not, that I do, I consent unto the law that it is good. 17. So now it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwelleth in me. 18. For I know that in me, that is, in my flesh, dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me, but to do that which is good is not. 19. For the good which I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I practise. 20. But if what I would not, that I do, it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwelleth in me. 21. I find then the law, that, to me who would do good, evil is present. 22. For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: 23. but I see a different law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity under the law of sin which is in my members. 24. Wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me out of the body of this death? 25. I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then I of myself with the mind, indeed, serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin. (Romans 7:14-25)

What our dear brother Paulos, writes here is, that his body, or his flesh is still prone to do sin, even though his mind is works now different, because now the mind what he have is a mind of the Spirit, and not mind of the flesh anymore, but the flesh still is prone to rise up lust, and temptations, which he do not anymore join, like the time when he have the mind of flesh.

But if a man do join in the lust from his body, it is because he have not mortify yet the mind of flesh, so his mind work according to the flesh.

The mind of flesh is for dead, but mind of the Spirit is for life, and everyone should mortify that mind of flesh, so that you may not join in the lust from you flesh, and do sin.

Do not commit sin anymore

Romans 7:14-25 is Paul speaking from his perspective of when he was a Jew abiding in the Law of Moses (Before he was a Christian). He struggled with sin and could not overcome it by trying to do what was right by the Law. However, the only solution he learned to overcoming sin was by accepting and abiding in Jesus Christ. For there is no Condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus who walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit (Romans 8:1).

Also, Ephesians 4:17-27 says,

"This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you no longer walk as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto licentiousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.But you have not so learned Christ;If so be that you have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:That you put off concerning the former way of life the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;And that you put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.Therefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbor: for we are members one of another.Be angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:Neither give place to the devil."

In fact, in Romans chapter 7, we know Paul is talking from his perspective as a Jew (who followed the Law of Moses) before he was a Christian because if such was not the case, then there would be a contradiction in what he said.

For in Romans 7:14 Paul says he is sold under sin.
Yet in Romans 8:2 Paul says he is free from sin.

The confusion seems to disappear the moment we look at Modern Translations for Romans 7:25.

Romans 7:25 NLV
"God’s Law has power over my mind, but sin still has power over my sinful old self. I thank God I can be free through Jesus Christ our Lord!"

Romans 7:24-25 Phillips
" In my mind I am God’s willing servant, but in my own nature I am bound fast, as I say, to the law of sin and death. It is an agonising situation, and who on earth can set me free from the clutches of my sinful nature? I thank God there is a way out through Jesus Christ our Lord."

Romans 7:25 GNT
"Thanks be to God, who does this through our Lord Jesus Christ!This, then, is my condition: on my own I can serve God's law only with my mind, while my human nature serves the law of sin."

His flesh is sold under sin, and his body serve the sin, like also your body, and also my serve the sin, it is prone to do sin, even though the mind may not.
