Well there's two factors here. First factor is, we see a lot of Church of Christ folks come through here that really do have the "our church is the only REAL church and all of you are sadly misguided, so I'm here to show you sinners the true way" attitude. If somebody reads your first post in this thread with that history in mind, it can be easy to misinterpret what you said.
Second factor, there are some people in this forum who are always eager to jump on anybody they think might be judgmental. Like they jumped on you.
Best thing to do is just ignore it. The alternative is to take the bait and start a big argument, and that never ends well.

It was for entertainment value. Very little on the Internet should be taken seriously. The Internet is kind of like an ever-changing schema of bathroom graffiti.
There are plenty of arguments to be found in the Bible Discussion Forum without making one here. Never assume people are trying to start an argument with you until the evidence is incontrovertible that an argument is their goal.
Assuming her initial post was "My church is the REAL church" argument bait, what is benefited by taking the bait? And if your assumption is wrong, that's even worse. With all possible intentions and outcomes weighed together, it it usually better to assume a person meant better.
Reading this thread through again, it is apparent that you have some kind of axe to grind with the CofC.... everyone else stated where they went to church, and as soon as someone said they went to a CofC, you immediately accused them (or at least implied) of believing they were "the only ones going to heaven".....
Why did you not do that with the Baptists here? I have heard Baptists say they are the only "true" denomination. In fact, there are very likely members of any and all "denominations" that feel theirs is the "true" denomination.
And, yes, I am a member of the CofC... and I DON'T believe that "we" are the only ones going to heaven. I believe that all saved believers are going to heaven.... no matter who they choose to worship with.
You need to re-think your approach.... your bigotry is showing.
Really? I've been here a while, and I've only seen one or two that seem to fit that "pigeon-hole"..
Actually, I see WAY more "charismatic" types that want to tell everyone that if you don't speak in tongues, you are not a "true Christian"..... there are probably 10 or so of those types on here at this point in time.
We need to stop trying to put labels on people... they will usually do that themselves soon enough.
My wife and I are both around 70, and we have extensive experience in the CoC. She was born into "The Church" and raised in six different congregations over thirty years. (Yes, "The Church" really is how they refer to themselves and their "denomination" while declaring it IS NOT a denomination..... because, almost to a man, they will state with all certainty they only members of THAT denomination are truly in "Christ's Church.)
As I understand it, some of the younger people see it more openly than that, (I sure hope they do) but even the younger churches seldom will have anything to do with any other denomination.... simply because they are not of the "True Church."

Yes... some of the CofC's do that, but many more do not... at least in my experiences in two different cities in Texas...
Just as some of the Baptist groups do that, and some of the Pentecostals, etc....
I know the history of "the church"... and there definitely was a tendency to think they were the "true" church of Christ... hence the name.
It is the reason quite a few churches have taken the name CofC off their building, because of the negative stereotyping.
I saw one in Lubbock that had on their building "A church of Christ meets here"... I thought that was pretty good.
There are different levels of "strictness" in CofC's... just as there are in any other denomination... There's one in Allen (where we live) that is an "anti" church... no Sunday School classes, no kitchen allowed in the building, no missionary support, dress codes, etc... Then there are some that are pretty liberal about most things, but acapella only, no intruments. Then there's us.... two services on Sunday morning, one instrumental, one acapella. Sometimes people come to worship in shorts and flipflops.
There are three churches in a row on our street... a Presby, a Methodist, and a CofC.... we have, on several occasions, gone together with the other denominations in community events and such.
I spent the first almost 9 years of my with an atheistic background with a hint of Catholicism. The Catholicism only came into play when someone got married or died. Otherwise the best I got was there might be a God but only weak minded idiots would waste their time searching for Him. Sometime around 10 my mom found a strict Pentecostal church and I stayed there till I was 15. At this point I have no identity with a denomination. When we go to church it's to a Baptist church and while it's ok...it's not really a great fit. So this post is more or less me rambling and not answering the question because I'm incapable of doing so

The Hornet is definitely right about the music..... if you don't happen to catch one of the "dead ones." The good singers are unbelievable, but the poorer ones can even make 728-b sound like a funeral march. (728-b is a very upbeat CoC song.)

I'm encouraged to hear that. We left the CoC thirty years ago, mainly because of that old attitude. But, even in the few times in recent years we have been back to one of our old congregations for some funerals, much of the old thinking was still evident. Too bad.

I’ve been a Baptist for 12 years. In 3 different conventions. I have never heard it said that only our denomination is saved! Before that, Evangelical Free, Pentecostal, a short stay at the Vineyard, and non denoms.
Many wonderful Christians at every church we have attended, and some people I just shake my head at.
There are Bible believing Presbyterians in Canada. We went to one after I was first saved. Just not the mish-mash of the United Church of Canada, also fondly know as “the Apostate Church of Canada!”

I never assumed she was trying to start an argument, I only assumed that she was putting her denmoniation on a petistole.
