Many people say they are religious, or claim to practice a certain religion or another. The plain truth about religion is made clear by God in His Word:
"If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man's religion is worthless. Pure and undefiled religion before our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world." (James 1:26-27, NASB)
Christians, followers of Jesus the Christ, are called to be caring people and to be pure from the world's influence. If we really want to be religious people, we must look after those who are helpless and in unfortunate circumstances, and keep watch over ourselves that we do not fall into sin.
