I thought this might be fun to see how many of us have heard and have quoted old wives tales!

Never,ever wash clothes on New Years day....you may was a loved one out of your life!

Ok...now none were coming to mind. So, I did what anyone would do this day in age...I looked up Old Wives Tales on the internet. With that said, it claimed that the ones I was looking at were from the 1800s. I had Nevwr hears of this one before, seemed a bit crazy. With that said, might have been an actual thing that was believed back then. And without further ado, here is some I found... (don't shoot the messenger 🙂):
Acne Treatment
  • Collect the first-morning urine of a pregnant cow. Dab it on the pimples and leave it there for 15 minutes before rinsing. Repeat until pimples are gone.
  • Another similar version involves rubbing a urine-soaked cloth baby diaper on the pimples.

Cuts and Scrapes
  • Let your dog lick the wound.
  • Cover the wound with a spiderweb.
Children and Pregnancy
  • Heartburn during pregnancy is another sign of a baby boy.
  • You can discover an unborn baby’s gender by tying your ring to a string and hanging it over the pregnant woman’s belly. If it swings in a circle, it’s a boy. If it swings back and forth, it’s a girl.
  • Taking a bath while pregnant can drown the fetus.
Diaper Rash
  • Apply cornstarch to the baby’s bottom.
  • Apply pure lard to baby’s butt.
  • Few Miscellaneous Tips
  • Cows lie down when it’s going to rain.
  • Old people can predict rain by feeling it in their bones.
  • Spilling salt means you will have bad luck.
  • If your ears are ringing, someone is talking about you.
  • Don’t cross your eyes or they’ll get stuck that way.
  • Hair of the dog will ease hangover symptoms.
  • Put a slice of bread in your mouth while slicing onions to stop your eyes from watering.

  • Feed a cold, starve a fever.
  • Eat raisins that have been soaked in gin to ease arthritis pain (BBG: I'm thinking it was the Gin here but...lol)
  • Applying kerosene to the injured area when you step on a nail or shut your fingers in a door can lessen the pain.
  • To reduce restless leg syndrome, put a few potatoes in bed with you at night.
  • Apply a mixture of raw eggs and milk to a snake bite.

if you have a sty on your eye....stand on a road that is hilly and say......sty sty on my eye catch the 1 st car that passes by

Wow....ummm, I'm going with there is going to be more then one thing a part of the body, like THE BODY, that will hitch a ride with the car (at least for about 50 feet or so😄)!
 
Hmm... two thoughts about old wives' tales...

FIRST THOUGHT:
At my w*rkplace there are a few people who have a superstition about the words "busy" and "slow." They believe if you say anything about the rate of business at the current time, whether you say it is really busy today or really slow today, either of those words will automatically make us busy.

Unfortunately they are wrong. Sometimes I WISH I could summon business out of thin air on a slow day by saying one of those two words. On some very slow days I have chanted "busy busy busy slow slow slow" but it never helped our flagging business that day.

The only thing I have found that actually has any effect is for me to try to get something done. If I try to take care of one of the minor tasks I do every day, we instantly get busy and I have to drop whatever I was trying to accomplish. I have witnesses that this really does happen.

SECOND THOUGHT:
I remember a comic strip I read one time.
CAT: I heard mice spread disease.
MOUSE: You believe everything you hear?
CAT: Sure do.
MOUSE: I heard if you swing a dead cat around your head at the stroke of midnight by the light of a full moon, it brings good luck.
CAT: Touche.

Hot tea will cure a headache
cracking your knuckles gives you arthritis
don't swallow gum it will block your intestines
don't swallow seeds they will grow.in your belly

I hate to say it......but I have quoted some of these to my kids and grands😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Aaaaa....so ur saying those things are not true?<<<<swallows some seeds and washes them down with water.....and waits ....and waits....and waits.. maybe I should do something while I'm waiting, this could take a while...

I'm sure different parts of America and also other countries have different tales.
I was always told that about gum and seeds as a kid......apple,watermelon,orange seeds.

what kind did ya swallow so I'll know harvesting time?😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
 
Don't swallow seeds as the organic matter is not processed well by the intestines and is hard on the stomach?
I digress...




Idk any I don't think. Other than if you cross your eyes they may stay that way. It does seem to place undue strain on the eyes and that has unpredictable effects to be fair ;)

really? Has this been tested on animals? Like rabbits?

the other is that twins run in the family. well I have brothers that are twins and they dont do any running. My sister however, is not a twin and she runs marathons.
