Pfew, it was rather hard to find a right board for this, as it seems sharing and discussion your faith, with others, cannot be categorized easily, here it has found a way to be boxed in rather well.
I just wanted to comment on a thread that I found rather disturbing called "Can the devil put thoughts in your head?"
Now I have to say, giving somone advice, who is not yourself, is never really easy, especially if you are wanting to do it right, but at least listen and if no one is saying anything, presume that there is no problem. Or presume the worst, and follow up on that.
If no one does not want to find out more about the person, asking for advice or help, the young man in question was probobly rather hard on himself or maybe even trying to push himself out of bounds. It is a common occurency and yes, life is VERY difficult for young people these days. Espcially if they don't have everything, yet.
If you cant do something, then dont. No one wants to see you kill, torment or hurt yourself in any way, over things that cannot be helped, in your case, in my case, in any case(I though people want to differentiate themselves from a culture where martyrdom is considered part of the process...you know what I am getting at hopefully)in his case.
While I do understand how some of you might gain a certain kind of inner disciplin from a "certain sense" of believeing, which is a great thing, it's not really the point in this case is it? You.

Compassion in this case is also being to say, "well I do think you should go to a psychologist and god would never hate you for it". Why? Because he wouldn't. Anyone with the direct line to god's evil side can consider themselves sniffed out. Either you are the devil or heavily interested in becoming one.
Either you want to help somebody or you don't. It's that simple and there is no middle ground.
You can't go all the way with someone you at least suggest something that can acutally help him or her and cover ALL the bases, because in the end that's the kind of respect this person, any person deserves.
Oh my child is having a trauma after some unforseen occurance(as they do occure), well, don't worry, god's gona fix it, we can trust in him(I mean what kind of a bill is that going to be) and if he doesn't well then...

Helping is not just aribitrary art form reserved for times when giant catastrophes loom or crash down over hundreds, or thousands or even millions. Usually, so little compassion is practices that the accumulated debt(if you ask me) in love and respect cause these catastrophes to happen, regularly.
Anyone who really believes in god and knows there extremely horrible things in life happening, that people are doing to each other, themselves should, first of all, try to make a person like this, feel more comfortable with himself or herself.
And then go looking for answers.
Don't just say, the devil can put words in your head and oh yeah, good luck with that(I think these kind of statements should be considered a crime). Be more open about the kind of person you are dealing with.
I have gotten to know(sadly, but then again it does help sometimes) some very nasty, vicious, evil people in my life. I don't if they are going to be like this forever, but if it brings them the success or recegnition they crave, they will.
The system we live in, in the west, just allows it, too easily. Even rewards it(not in the long run but hey...the night is still young)and is very focused on the "darwinistic" rules and principles of survival of the fittest, we are all very fit and if we are not, we can expect to be helped.
Anyway,
it was just an observation over ANIMALS, at the time. A long time ago.
How anyone can excuse themselves to help themselves, with this(or anything), beats me. Really. It does.
I don't believe god caters to anyone. Not me not you. I mean wow. The devine creator and you're like, please god, help me with this test, help me with this job interview, help me with this child, help me with this and help me with that.
Maybe we are clogging the sensors of the universe with our trivial .... so those in need are easily overheared.
And why should he help us? If we can't even help each other.
What kind of an image is that we where made after?
Maybe we should cater to him and what he stands for.
And if it is not compassion or being compassionate you think he stands for then....wow.

Give it! Be compassionate. Always. You can and you should, but be open about it and don't give advice that doesn't even help yourself.
Believing in the devil and the evil of all things, foremostly, does not make you a christian any more than believing in salt does not makes you a great cook. Or any cook at all.
The teachings are not about finding out WHO IS THE BAD GUY? WHERE IS THE EVIL? WHO DO DECAPITATE HERE???
Certainly not.
Anyhow, coming back to the issue, if somone is having a obvious, now, this is it, real time, real life, issue(especially if they are young) any help that further deconstructs that persons autonomy to act, in all directions he or she thinks necessary. Cannot be considered real help. Further constricting a persons movements, when the constriction of movement is just the problem is not good help.
If Jesus was a person(and he was by anyone looking at him during that time, please don't bother me with this chitchat)
you would have needed to recognize him as one and if he would have come to you with a problem(maybe even as a test of faith), how would you have best served him? But brushing it off and or only exploring the alternative left to you in a single state of mind?
I always believed faith was being able to accept all things and still not have to question yourself because....

And if it's not a test for you, because you are hopeless, maybe it is, was a test for him and I hope he is ok.
I would not have considered the followers of Jesus to be an army of muntants and to the last minute, acutally, they still weren't shure if the whole thing was up to them. See Peter. Who is, for some reason, the keeper to the gates of heaven.

Believe but stop demanding more and more and more of it. Espcially not from yourself but other people who are not like you and maybe never will be. So there.
