CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -Controversy has sparked at a north Charlotte church after a pastor sent an email asking that "only white people" stand at the front door to greet the congregation.
A viewer contacted WBTV after getting an email from Pastor Makeda Pennycooke, an African-American woman, at Freedom House Church along Salome Church Road.

Apparently the pastor felt first impressions count, they are after quality not quantity at the door. Motivation seems to be the church bottom line rather than saving anyone. That is my impression from this small article.
 
Kinda disturbing that the race of your congregation is even an issue.

Or to believe white people are more likely to come if they see a white face at the door...kinda reveals the heart, does it not? Does an african american feel like its the right church because a black person greets them at the door?

This entire ideal illuminates the racism in this church.

Who cares if your church is ''diverse'' or not....unless what you preach is bigoted. Its about sharing the gospel, not the race of those who sit in the pews.

Women pastors.
 
I was expecting, based on the headline, to see an article about a predominantly white church, not a predominantly ethnic church attempting to attract a greater white attendance. Based on comments in the article it did appear that the motivation was to try drawing in more whites because of financial consideration which is sad.

Unfortunately, lots of churches make MOST of their decisions for purely financial reasons.

Once I was working on a ministry project with a good buddy of mine;
he'd taken a job as a singles minister at a small urban church.
He wanted to reach out to all the hurting, messed up people in the inner-city.
He had a real vision for getting people off the streets, out of bars, even out of jail...
and getting them into church.
And... the church elders told him "no way".

They said they only hired him and his wife because they were "attractive hipsters",
and the elders expected them to only reach out to people in the SUBURBS...
to bring in all that white, middle class, suburban cash.
Seriously.

I imagine this happens all the time.
 
What gets me in this article is how the pastor wrote that she wanted the "best of the best" at the front doors -- implying that the whites are the best of the best. REALLY??!! This woman is SUCH a racist. She sees everything based on race. Absolutely horrific.

In her eyes, black people are poor.

I would wager this ''pastor'' has never voted for a republican or conservative in her life.

She sees black people as less, and always in need. That is the democrat position.

Pretty sad african americans have embraced the bigoted party...and extremely ironic. Its like satan selling beach front property in hell. You have to give it to the democrat party...they are great salesmen.
