Hi and much liking your comments! Just wanted to share that I see the "old man" is still on the Cross--but restrained from the ability to cause those reborn to ever desire to sin any more, similar to what Paul shared about being a "captive" (Ro 7:23). The object of the captivity is not in sinning but in not ever wanting to sin. Ro 6:6 says "the body of sin is destroyed"; thus we no longer "serve" sin--that is, no longer desire sin.God does not change the sinful nature. He kills it. Then He raises us up to be new creations in Christ. Lord Jesus died for all mankind. God includes us in the death of Jesus when we accept Him. So the dead spirit is removed by the death of Christ and we rise with Him to new life.
This is similar to that of a captain of a ship did something terribly wrong to the crew and the crew mutinies against the captain and is chained up against the main mast. While the crew works on getting the ship back to shore they can hear the captain still yelling orders; but now they know don't have to obey him, while he is bein returned to the shore.
The Christian still sins, but now it is always unwillingly and against his desire; like Paul revealing it's never his desire to sin since his rebirth (Ro 7:14-20).
