Continuing from: Our Priesthood in Jesus, Part 1 - The Forgiveness of Sins

1 Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; Revelation 1:6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father;

This priesthood is the fulfillment of Exodus 19:6 - And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation...

To understand what our priesthood is, what is the service that priests were performing in the OT?

The job of priests was also continual offering of sacrifices to God. And not all sacrifices have been considered acceptable by God. Let us go through what are acceptable and unacceptable sacrifices and translate this from Old Testament into New Testament system.

Genesis 4:2-5Cain brought “some” of his food (any food will do you know). And Abel brought the BEST of his flock (the fat portions and the firstborn). God saw their hearts. He KNEW who was offering their best. Leviticus is teaching the people and the priests that ONLY the BEST is to be offered to HIM. NOTHING else will do.
