I loved you all my life
At 12 I let you into my heart
Nothing now could tear us apart
Yet as I grew I did things that disobeyed you
It caused me to want the things of this world
A new array of things had unfurled
My mind wanted it all, my mind wanted more
I couldn’t help it, I wanted to explore
I knew it was wrong, I knew it wasn’t right
Yet it still happened, whether morning or night
On and on the cycle was going
Repent and repeat but I still wasn’t growing
I wanted to stop, I wanted to change
I could call out to him, but I was in shame
Like a stick in the mud I could not move
Going deeper and deeper, what could I do
Till one night I had enough
Lord I can’t do this, Lord I’m not tough
On that morning I felt a warm light
I was aware of what was wrong, what wasn’t right
You showed me what to do instead
What I should do before going to bed
Yet I still wasn’t perfect, I still made mistakes
I found myself back in the mud, this is just great
But time and time, again and again
You picked me back up with your righteous right hand
Knees to the floor, bowing in shame
Hand on my face you called me by name
Looking up at your eyes, at your beautiful face
You said I’m forgiven with such love and grace
But while I’m here still on this earth
Remind me of your power and my worth
Continue to heal me deep in my heart
Let me be with you always not miles apart
At 12 I let you into my heart
Nothing now could tear us apart
Yet as I grew I did things that disobeyed you
It caused me to want the things of this world
A new array of things had unfurled
My mind wanted it all, my mind wanted more
