I've never had a great relationship with my parents. They've never wanted me and have always reminded me of what an inconvenience I am. As a result, I've always had a desire to have parental figures who would love me unconditionally for who I am. At 27 years old, God allowed my path to cross with a wonderful Christian couple who had children of their own along with adopted children. After getting to know this family (I actually teach with the wife), they took on the role of being my mom and dad...so much so that I was allowed to call them mom and dad and they also referred to me as their daughter. Throughout the last 9 months, my self-esteem and walk with Christ has became much more strong and I have made a great amount of growth in various aspects of my life. About three weeks ago, their daughter in law decided that I was no longer welcome and was intruding in the family and as a result, I have been exiled. Mom has decided that it is not biblically correct for me to call them Mom and Dad and has had very little interaction with me and Dad has had no communication with me at all. I am so confused and so hurt as I am wondering why they would change their mind and feelings about me at the drop of a hat. How should I think and what should I do?

This is odd, sounds like daughter in law could have been envious, it does make a difference when you know people love you, do your parents go to
church?Mabe you could start with Mom going to church with you, have you talked to your parents about how you feel ? I believe that is why God is
so special, he will be our mother, father, best friend, everything we need, then when we know who we are in him, he fills all the voids, then we become
those loving parents like you mentioned,
God bless you JLE

Yeah, i agree with damombomb, sounds as though the daughter in law is jealous of you, or possibly suspicious of you. Ironically, in this situation, it sounds like she's the one they need to be suspicious of.
Also, i can think of nothing biblical at all that even remotely hints at any wrongness in the situation. If anything i think the way the initially took you under their wing was the right way to be.
Perhaps try to sit and have a one on one with either the 'mom' or 'dad' and have them explain their reasons and show you the scripture that they supposed are claiming that makes the situation unbiblical. Chances are that is not how they truly feel inside, but have been manipulated and possibly pressured into acting. Perhaps if you can get at least one to sit and talk you can break through that and get them to admit to their wrong mentality.

At this point I would take what I learned and treasure it, give them some space and time. At least three more weeks. Go to a leader you trust in your church and pray about it. But don't forget to ask God for wisdom. Jesus is our counselor.

Maybe what their thinking is you depend on their support too much, And they want you to depend more on God. Unless you are a child, you should never “depend on anyone”, but God. You should have someone in your life because they enhance your life. Because you want to share friendship or love with them, but never because you depend on them, it is O.K. to have support. You should be able to live and be happy regardless of who is in your life. Don't ever measure your happiness through other people, they will fail every time. Only you can find happiness for yourself.
The joy of the lord is our strength.

I will pray that you will have understanding and insite and that you will see the only Father we need is God. In Jesus name amen

Nehemiah 8:10
This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”

2 Thes 2:16,17
May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.

John 14:26
But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

James 1:5
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

JLE. God knows our need for love and acceptance. The scriptures asy "God is a father to the fatherless." Where are earthly fathers are weak, God is able to fill in the gap somehow. Perhaps a similar rposition could be made with mothers. In isaiah 61 'Christ came to heal the broken heart. I have had to believe God for inner healing from relationship failures often. Eventually the healing will come. We need to look for points of agreement in families and build our relationship on that. I don't think there is a lot we can do to make people love us when they don't want to.
