I am definitely not a fan of Rick's work, but that does not stop me from empathizing with the pain he is probably feeling. I hope that him and all those who knew Matthew will be able to get through this healthily.
 
Really sorry to hear that. Suicide is an absolutely awful way to lose a loved one.
Rick and his family will be in my prayers :D
 
I'm a member of two church's. Saddleback Church is one of them. My pastor's son is dead. If this is your best, then you have failed as a human being with regards to this topic at least.

I don't agree with some of Rick Warren's teachings but this is a terrible tragedy. I'll be praying for his family at this difficult time.
 
And so the barbarians of hyper-sectarianism and secular liberalism sharpen their weapons and charge the gate with the arrogance of presumption as their battering ram.

We live in sad times.

Mourn with those who mourn.

His family and flock are in my prayers.
 
We all face tragedies in our lives. And no matter what position we hold, wealth we possess or beliefs we have, the pain and loss from death is equally felt. Let us pray for all those feeling the loss of this life. Let us pray for those who feel the anguish of the loss of their loved ones. And let us pray for those who struggle with the anxiety of mental health and depression. God Bless!
 
Rest in piece Matthew Warren. I really feel sad for him, and his surviving family. I've dealt with depression and it's been in my family. People don't understand that depression can have a chemical source. It's not always caused by external stuff. Besides, it doesn't matter, a family has lost their son/brother.

May the Lord be with them and comfort them.
 
Matthew had a birth defect with his brain that caused him deep depression his entire life from his earliest childhood on. This has NOTHING to do with Rick Warren's theological beliefs!

Matthew did not commit suicide because Rick Warren's understand of the Bible may differ from your own in some ways (once properly qualified because most of the time the critic is simply building a straw man to burn down based on false understanding of what Rick actually believes).

Due to the practice of machine gunning down Christians, an entire new issue has arisen around Matthew's suicide:

Many Christians are joining with the world to attack Rick during his time of grieving for his son.

I guess it makes them feel holy in some way. Christians too are awesome at machine gunning down their own when they fall or have a trial in their life and then leaving them in the dirt as they go to worship God.

God; however, is not pleased with this behavior.
 
This is very sad... may the Warren family and all those who knew their son Matthew find peace and comfort in the Lord.
 
Enough are so busy hurling their own baggage at Rick right now OceanGrl that it's getting in the way of Rick and his family finding peace and comfort in the midst of this this tragedy.

Rick did issue a statement; however, saying “only those closest knew that he struggled from birth with mental illness, dark holes of depression, even suicidal thoughts" (due to his brain birth defect) and that he wished it was on earth as it is in heaven as Jesus prayed.

The last was also in a tweet he made following waves of online attacks at him and his family from the world and other Christians.

Wow dude...that's a bit rude. Who cares what or what his church is? The guy just lost his son. I'm sure yer' comment is something Jesus would have said. - just sayin'
 
Rick's book, 'The Purpose Driven Life' helped win my heart over to Christ after being an agnostic all my adult life. I am saddened by the news and it seems eerily reminiscent to how another very popular southern california preacher, Greg Laurie, who tragically lost his son a few years ago.
