Hey my name is Patrick. I like writing poetry. I noticed people tend to post a new topic per poem. I figure I will just make one topic to throw all my poems on if that's okay (if not let me know.) Also I am desiring any criticism, input or compliments, what you think of them. Or even if you want to respond with your own poem, that be cool indeed.

Anyways I'll put up two poems to kickstart this thread.

The Rose

I once saw a rose beautiful and fair
She kept bound her petals which she would not bare
I watered her tenderly but she did not care
Her thorns stung my fingers
The pain it still sears
She forsake the gardener and made love with the weeds
And when Winter came she died with her seeds.

Christian Chat

So it seems I found a home
After years of darkness walking alone
So many friends! My heart is so joyful
A sweet refuge of wisdom where I may rest from my toil

So many smart people flitter about
We debate and discuss
And all praise Jesus with a shout

Sometimes we might disagree
But I still love you and you still love me
Trully I say this place is so great
I am eager for this Fellowship everyday I awake

I knocked on the door at the Welcome Mat
Thank you for accepting me
God Bless Christian Chat!

Hopelessness

Hopelessness
That feeling of gloom
Like walking bare naked into an empty room
There is no one to care
Yet nothing to fear
Nothing is all that lies before the path here

Nothing is the key word that eats at my soul
Like a terrible black gravity downward it pulls
The futility of life, the blindness of reason
Days pass by, months, and season

An entanglement of wishes broken
A whisper in the forest as if never spoken
Like the fading twilight of the world
Denied the depravity of night and the morning when woken

Hopelessness is a constant companion
Your best of friends
A pal to whom you will never abandon

Hopelessness, apathy times a million
To care not to live, to be frightened to die
Hopelessness is the answer to “Why?”

Hopefulness

Hopefulness
Salvation cries with a boom
Like filling with treasure an empty room
Knowing that so many care
There is nothing to fear
Feeling the hand of grace wipe away all tears

Everything it offers fills up my soul
It warms my heart like it’s surrounded by wool
Restores my life and marries Wisdom to Reason
It gives flavor to life and adds forth its season

Like a nightmare ended when woken
The password of Life, the eternal token
It will not fade in the twilight of the world
It is the eternal promise to all. The Word remains unbroken

Hopefulness is a constant companion
Your best of friends
A pal to whom you will never abandon

Hopefulness, salvation times a billion
To care not to die, to be thankful for life
Hopefulness is the answer to “Why?”

Leaders of Men

The sound of swift-footed horses echoed 'round his ears
Thus the cruel heart of Nero ended with tears
"I will not let your people go" Pharoah hard-hearted frowned
Did he still believe in his mortal crown when his weak armies drowned?

Cleopatra used lust to try to get Julius Caesar and Mark Antony in her grasp
And the dynasty of Ptolmeys ended when she killed herself with an asp
Qin Shi Huang Di could build many things but he went mad searching for immortality
His magicians fed him mercury and he perished poisoned to insanity

Montezuma thought feeding the Sun human blood would give it life's breath
I wonder if he thought the same thing when his own people stoned him to death
They say Juan Ponce de Leon for Spain searched Florida for the Fountain of Youth
True or not a poisoned arrow caused him to go to Cuba and die with his truth

Little Boots, Caligula, where to start? His story is too much depraved
He ended betrayed by is his own guards, killed, for the insults he raved
Reminds me of Hitler whom thought himself destined to rule all from North to South
I wonder if he realized he was wrong as he put the gun in his mouth

Pagan princess Jezebel thought that her magic and idols were all that much mattered
Should have listened to God's Prophet that warned her she'd be thrown down and splattered
Countess Bathory killed so many young girls to keep her vanity from looking old
And in Cachtice Castle she died decrepit alone in the cold

Idi Amin, self-proclaimed king, murdering his own people all this while
Rightfully pushed from power buried in a poor man's grave in exile
Hey anyone remember Gaddafhi whom thought he was untouchable and elite?
I saw with my own eyes the poor he oppressed stomp his pride out in the street

As the French starved with no bread Marie and Louis taunted them with some cake
I guess it goes without saying the slice they received was one they'd rather not take
Not that I am saying wee Emperor Napoleon was any little bit better
After all his big ambition got him a tiny island to sit on and fester

Tsar Nicholas massacred his people while the Imperials enjoyed all their pleasure
Yet no amount of money could buy the Romanovs an escape from machine gun measure
Oh Lenin you thought your corpse and atheist empire would last to this day?
Today your Soviet Union fell and pieces of your cadaver are flaking away

Kim Il-Sung thou thought yourself a god, President Elected to Eternal Terms
You and your line can't even help half of Korea and The Kims will be eaten by worms
Emperor Hirohito your pride brought a tide of terror through Asia it swept
Because of such pride in defeat all of your people woefully wept

Hail Mussolini whom thought he would restore Caesar's crown
Guess that was proven wrong as Il Duce hung upside down
Attila the Hun served Mars and bore his red sword thinking he himself the god of war
And he drowned drunk during sex into his lungs his blood poured

Oh cruel Ali weren't you supposed to establish that fabled Caliphate?
Why is it then all the people you persecuted saw to it that you were fit to assasinate?
Don't think God favored Ahab, that wicked king, just because he claimed to rule Israel
He sowed his seed in doom when he fornicated the trap of aforementioned Jezebel

Oh Britain did you think we forgot your storied bloody past?
We saw the sun set on your empire in the 20th Century at long last
And my America your elite think today they will get rid of God and take His throne fast
If you keep going down that road and worship Leaders of Men with their lot your die shall be cast

I really love the Poem The rose...

Thank you very much for that feedback and I am glad you like it. This is one of the few poems where I pretty much use symbolism (typically I am a little more foreward in my poems.) It is pretty much about a girl that I was infatuated with (she the rose and I the gardner.) We were actually very good friends (and still are friends to this day so don't hate her or nothing.) Lol naturally she rejected me (her thorns stung my fingers) and went around sleeping with a bunch of guys whom I am less than friendly towards (the weeds), had a baby and the guy ran out on her (dying with her seeds in winter represents the death of her innocence and coming to the fullness of her maturity, end of adolescence being symbolized by the Winter.)

Heh I actually have another poem about her which I wrote when she initially rejected me when I asked her to be my girlfriend lol. Like I said don't hate her or nothing, I don't. Gotta keep in mind my own mindset from when I wrote this, this was a few years ago (when I was 19-20) so you got a little bit of that teenage angst on my part lol. Looking back I am actually kinda glad she turned me down lol, so don't take my older more depressed writings as thinking I am still in that mindset. As I said this was about 5-6 years ago.

Where The Eyes Do Not Follow

Once upon a time when the world was young
I spied a woman whose beauty could match none
Her hair dark as night
She had the body of Aphrodite brought to life
At the sight of her presence it wrought my soul strife

For I astray am where the eyes do not follow
In her I saw light, in her I saw tomorrow
But she looks at me empty
To her I am hollow
Cast aside forever to wander
Where the eyes do not follow

Oh how it afflicts me, this worst of my plights
To view this most gorgeous woman
And to catch not her sight

Her skin so fair
Drives me crazy if bare
I have been cast into darkness
Blinded by her glare

Caught in the snare where the eyes do not follow
If only for a moment her love I could borrow
Would fill this shell with joy
And make it impervious to sorrow
However I tread down the lonely lane
Where the eyes do not follow

I tried once before to grasp of her glance
Fate plays me like a fool
And she spurned my advance
Destiny can be cruel
Making a mockery of chance
Enslaved by vain beauty I am trapped in a trance

Oh how I plea for there to come another
One more precious to tear this infatuation asunder
But what fool would not want this woman as their lover

In this wide world can there be anyone else so sexy?
I look, but don’t find, a problem to vex me

I waste away where the eyes do not follow
In vain I search and in vanity I wallow
I yearn for a woman to compare with her looks
The Wine of Futility I swallow
Here to die with my fate
Where the eyes do not follow
