What is holy must always be offered to God. What is precious should always be treasured. We often times do not distinguish what is holy to what is not and what are precious to what are common. We have eyes clouded, stained by our own self-centered preoccupation.
We waste our time in unproductive activities. Time is precious. What is spent can never be recovered again. Time is a commodity common to all. Talents should be used, cultivated and developed. God gave each one of us talent for our pleasure and for His glory. Most of the time, we disregard this gift either we take it for granted or misuse it. The resources God made us stewards, in the same way, have been expended haphazardly in our caprices. God gave us the strength to earn it, the intelligence to achieve it, the help to reach it and here we go again messing it all up.
Jesus spoke in the seventh chapter of Matthew, “Do not give what is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.” He pointed out the mishandling of the sacred by devaluating it by giving it to dogs, or cheapening the most prize gift by throwing it in the pigpen.
Our lives are important to Him. He died in the cross for us, redeeming us from darkness into light. There was no other way; it had to be His life for our lives. His blood had to be shed as the ultimate sacrifice once and for all. What He did was holy; the redeemed must not take it lightly. It should not be given to the dogs. Moreover, our bodies must be given to God as holy and acceptable sacrifice in His sight. We are not our own, we are bought with a price, His precious blood. This earthly tent should not be used for any form of wickedness. It is as if we throw our pearls before swine. This body should be used for the glory of God. We are His temple in which He has His residence.
All that we are and the gifts we received from God, we must give back to Him. No one is more deserving than our Maker. What is precious in His sight must also valuable in our own eyes. We must learn to distinguish the costly to that which is ordinary and worthless. Let us offer up ourselves to God so that His Spirit can work in us distinguishing what is precious and prized.
