Did Peter lose his salvation when he denied Christ? Do we lose ours if we deny him?

How about when Peter rebuked the Lord when told about the upcoming death, burial and resurrection?

Peter denied Him because he feared the people, not because he did not believe Jesus is God.

Salvation is received by Faith and Grace. So how can a person lose their Salvation by saying they did not know Jesus?

Peter never lost his Salvation.

Amen! Peter had a weak moment, but he did not lose his salvation. In Matthew 10:32, we read - "Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. 33 But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven." The broader context of this passage relates to the fact that the Pharisees had continuously denied Jesus while the disciples spoke about Him in every city they visited. We might paraphrase His teaching this way: "Whoever confesses me before men (such as you disciples), I will confess him before my Father in heaven. But whoever denies me before men (like these Pharisees do on every occasion they get), I will deny him before my Father in heaven."

The word for "deny" is an aorist tense. This points to the fact that Jesus is not talking about a single instance of denial (as was the case with Peter, who actually denied Him three times - Luke 22:34), but is referring to life in its entirety. Hence, the person who throughout his life denies Christ (as was typically the case with the Pharisess and includes unbelievers who may even give mere "lip service confession" - Matthew 7:22-23, but lack saving faith in Christ) will be denied by Christ before the Father. In Galatians 2:11-15, we see that Peter had another weak moment when he feared the Jews and was not being straightforward about the truth of the gospel. Paul even had to rebuke him, but nothing is mentioned about him losing his salvation there either.

Peter denied the Lord before the Holy Spirit was given to him.

He wasn't saved when Peter denied Christ:

Luke 22:34 And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.

Jesus said, "when you are converted":

Luke 22:32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.

It was sometime after Peter believed.

Of course he was saved. The first encounter Jesus had with Peter was to reconfirm him in the ministry...

John 21:15-18 KJVS
[15] So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs. [16] He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep. [17] He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep. [18] Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.

Peter was saved in a sense he would not have faced God's wrath if he died. Like the OT saints, he would have gone to Abraham's bosom, paradise. Not until the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the blood atonement on the mercy seat in Heaven was anyone saved like we know it.

No Peter did not lose his salvation !!!

We must learn to distinguish between a sin done in weakness that was repented of, to that of one who continues always in such disobedience !!!

We all sin now and then and thus have our advocate in Jesus that when we confess it and return to walk in His ways we will be forgiven. Thus there is no risk to salvation !!!

However if we return to that sinful life again never to repent of it then we do risk forfeiting salvation, as we are no longer abiding in Christ !!! Eternal security only exists in Christ !!!

When did Peter deny Christ? I saw him deny knowing Jesus to cover his bum, but it wasn't like he denied who Jesus is.
