I beg to disagree Last, Catholics maybe Christians but not True Christians. Cause if they are True Christians, why do they have so many idols which is prevalent here in PHL, many mediators (one of the famost one is Mary, add those so-called saints that have been proclaimed by the so-called "pope"), in infact there's only one mediator between Man and God and that is Jesus --- 1Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

if we only ask through the name of Jesus Christ, then the things we asked for will be given according to His will. Material things aren't important for True Christians, what is important to them is having a Savior and that He is able to give you joy in your heart even when you only have one penny in your pocket.

This looks pretty similar to the statistics I've seen.
All the protestant and various evangelical groups seem to make up around 4%-5% of what most protestants would consider "biblical christians".
Of course, I certainly wouldn't start any of my days by trying to offend as many Catholics as possible... that's not a very good plan.
I do get into a debate on CC occasionally with a Catholic apologist... but that isn't your average Catholic. Most Catholics are very sweet people... I disagree with them, but most of them are very nice people, and I try to treat them with love and kindness.

Is it our faith working against us or our lack of faith holding us back?
Why are the Buddhists of Singapore, the Moslems of Brunei, the Hindus of India or the Shintoist of Japan are better provided than the Christians of our country?

it's kinda weird but this reminds me of nativity story hehe. People always thought a messiah would be born in an empire or a kingdom for it was foretold, "a King will be born" but then again out of dismay, the Saviour was born in a manger. History even said that Jesus as a carpenter, was a second to the poorest class of people.

True... we were born in different situations so we may make the most of what we are being given.
Perhaps the Philippines is composed of many Christians/Roman Catholics and remains poor because there is no ambition to acquire more, or the pressure simply isn't there. This may be the result of instilled values or a state of 'contentment'.
Wealth and money is a man-made concept... maybe it's not supposed to gauge an entire country's faith. After all, heaven does not measure 'wealth' in the same way.

^^^I wouldn't be so quick to generalize all Catholics. IMO, even though they follow traditions and the veneration of saints, I would like to emphasize that this is not the case today. I believe that there is an expanding charismatic Catholicism movement in response to the growth of protestant evangelicals here in the PH. This charismatic Catholicism emphasizes many of the same themes as born again Christianity, including a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. So yep, I would not want to start offending RC by saying they are not true Christians. I am just very glad that there is an undergoing movement within RC which emphasize the truth why our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ died in the cross.
In response to why we are the poorest, well that is by our earthly standards. As mentioned in so many replies in this thread, all earthly riches are temporary. And people tend to have different priorities in life coupled with a certain level of contentment, and maybe getting rich doesn't hit number 1 in their checklist.
And no, I don't think faith-based society pulls us down. America is largely influenced by the Western Tradition, and look where they are right now.

Hello nettie, i believe you are referring to the ECUMENICAL MOVEMENT.

You would hear them saying the name of Jesus but their motives are not inline with God's. You know, one of the CC members whom i got chatted with said that it's ok if we have different doctrine as long we have common denominator and that is Jesus and my reply to that Ops I can't take that!. - and this is the purpose of that movement, proclaiming Jesus (the common denominator ) but behind it are idols. Why not let JESUS be the only one, the whole!
I'm not judging the RC devotees here, instead i feel sorry for them. Cause if they would just ONLY BELIEVE AND CLING to the name who has the only authority over heaven and earth, and that is JESUS (Matthew 28:18), then they will live their lives in contentment and peace, nothing to bother about what will happen tomorrow, whether the prices of our commodities will soar high or not and lastly they won't even bother the social status/standing (poor/riches) (Matthew 6:34).
Store up treasure in Heaven and not here on earth.

Sorry but I am not specifically refering to to any movement regarding in my post. What I am saying is that there is a trend right now in the catholic church which centers on having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. As an evangelical born again Christian, I have so many RC friends who still are catholics and by the grace of God are having a personal relationship with Him. Even our Pastor said that he believes that there are RC members who deep inside their hearts and by faith have accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and believe in Him and we will see them in Heaven. Brother, don't limit your opinions of what you only knows about RC in general. And don't let not one experience of yours with an RC makes you think they are all the same because there are RC who only believes in Jesus Christ without venerating idols and following the catholic sacraments.
What I am saying here is don't be so fundamentalist because I experienced first hand how shoving our evangelical beliefs and opinions only makes RC people hates us and thus becoming hostile to born again Christians, which eventually will result from being away from Jesus Christ. Jesus commanded us, to declare the good news. Let us learn in God's grace how we can bridge that gap so we can see more RC accept Jesus as their personal Savior.

i know you are not referring to any (and that it comes from me), what i mean was that, that movement is what they call ecumenical movement.
Glad to hear about your friends. If your friends are then accepted Jesus Christ as their personal savior then they are Christians and not RC anymore and they really are child of God.

And i am not being a fundamentalist here, i just simply share what's in the bible and i'm not forcing anyone who reads my post to believe it. If the word of God hurts them then they should read the bible for them to know the truth.
Heb 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
To preach and declare the good news is our work. To "bridge that gap" is God's work.

I saw, to myself, that a faith-based society set on wrong values would cause ME troubles (also lacks) to live a faith that gives me nothing and, instead, keeps on withholding things I think I need, however not all things are needed to live. I can live without a car, but the society I´m living in pushes me to believe a car is "essential" to be a perons, to be loved or admired (even sought as a person) (probably to be a datable one).
Those wrong values I let to leak in my belives would benefit my faith and, on the contrary, would lead me to belive: My faith serve me for nothing: "The things I want to enjoy, the peasures I wnat to enjoy, my religion tells me not to seek". So, in that case, faith works againts those things I considered important, desirable and enjoyable and, a faith like that, giving me nothing real I can hold to me, pulls me back from the place I want to be, the things I want to enjoy, away from those who said "I love you" and, in the contrary, have shown they loved me not, except have limited my life to nothing, to misery and religious things I care not when I want to enjoy earthly life, in abundantly.
Jesus was aware of those who He met (Mat 23:4 They make strict rules that are hard for people to obey. They try to force others to obey all their rules. But they themselves will not try to follow any of those rules. ). Pharisees loved to control other peoples needs and visceral longs, and those were unwilling to set limits their own hedonism. So, materialistic talking, poverty or wealth have an important role in all religions (even sex). The more one of these is considered above the other, our views about X faith will grow or dim, because ALL human nature tends to be hedonist: The omore joy or pleasure we have or get, the better that religion could be to be believed and lived.

Sure, I celebrate Christmas and Easter. Not everything I do has to be mandated in the bible. The bible does not say anything about the internet, but I use it anyways.

It is how Christians are that can affect the nation. But also how the denominations are. God knows what churches are and what they believe in. Many Christian churches DO deny the deity of Jesus Christ or the deity of the Holy Ghost by not believing in the Triune God--the Trinity according to 1 John 5:7.
There are some pseudo-Christian or Christendom out there.. Such as they say they believe in God but there are cults controlling people. I know one is growing extremely fast and from my understanding how they believe in God that they actually deny the deity of Jesus Christ and control their church members even saying that other Christian churches are false. I do not want to offense anyone but they are even trying to control politics, control voting, and just built a new arena stadium for sporting events and for their cult. Needs to witness them to the real Christ.

I don´t know about numbers, but I want to be counted as one who disbelieved the theory of evolution and that GOD is triune: One God and one mediator, His Son, Jesus.
indeed true...there are many christians(catholics) but only few(born again believers) are real. I don't think we share the same belief with catholics. I myself came from catholicism and i knew how idolatrous this religion is.
The poverty issue here is due to corrupt leadership and laziness of its people. We got this influence from the merciless spaniards who ruled us for 333 years in the past. Spaniards were lazy...corrupt...bully etc...They brought catholic religion here just to fool all the filipinos.

you know Last, it seems to me that you are confused you don't know what is a (Roman)Catholic and what is a Christian.
Didn't you know that even if you are still alive and believe that Jesus Christ is your personal Savior you are already a saint?

I was Catholic, I still being born each day, and I also have personal friends whose live and devotions are deeper in love with GOD.
They know i don't worship Mary, though I liked her for her being the mother of OUR Lord and I don't follow Catholic hierarchical leadership (Matt 23:8) because we are all equals and, IN THE SAME NEED OF BEING SAVED BY THE LORD JESUS.
