Before we start know this: I have yet to pick a position in this argument and know virtually nothing about the topic, which is why I'm asking for clarification and the FACTS.

So, abortion. Assume all I know is that it's when someone decides they don't actually want a baby and so have it removed from their body long before it is to be born.

What I want to know is, what is the Christian position on this and why. What's the biblical facts, etc, that validate our position? Why do Christian agree/disagree with this practice?

And please, remember my first sentence- I hold no position because I am uneducated on the topic and know virtually nothing, I am looking for facts and clarification.
 
The consensus among the Christian community has been overwhelmingly against abortion. Because it involves the termination of human life, most Christians (including myself) consider this to be murder - particularly because a human is being killed in the interest of convenience. Others may have different Biblical justifications, but the strongest case against abortion is in my opinion Exodus 21:22-25.

When men strive together and hit a pregnant woman, so that her children come out, but there is no harm, the one who hit her shall surely be fined, as the woman's husband shall impose on him, and he shall pay as the judges determine. But if there is harm, then you shall pay life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.

So evidently God considers the unborn child to have equal rights to life as an adult. To purposely kill an unborn child is equal to purposely killing an adult.

The prevailing Christian wisdom is this. You may find more fluctuation of opinions among females specifically, but generally Christians, irrespective of gender, subscribe to the "it's immoral" position.
 
How is the fetus in the womb any less different than the person it grows up to become, for they are the same person in different stages of their life.
 
It is an individual human life from the moment of conception (formation of the zygote) with all the genetic code to develop into a mature human being, requiring no additional genetic information.

It is simply a mature human being in the process of development, just as a 2-yr-old child or a teenager are mature human beings in the process of development.

It is murder to take human life.
