Faith is essential brother. When Christians Carry there cross daily and follow Jesus. Our circle of friends deplete. 1 Peter chapter 4. That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.
When they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you.

For this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead. That they might be judged according to men in the flesh,but i live according to God in the Spirit.
Those who are led by the Spirit, will live lonely lives. God's Truth goes against traditions of men and philosophy. God's Truth convicts sinners of sin. World doesn't want us around. They walk in darkness, and don't want the light near them. Many people will not carry there cross daily. Pride and selfishness takes this group in different direction. Body of Christ is shut out that circle.
Jesus gives different gifts and abilities to body of Christ. Use those talents to glorify God. We can suffer little pain in our lives. Look at Jesus. He was mocked, abused and whipped by sinners. Then crucified on cross. All His disciples ran away. World turned there back on him as he hung on cross.
Jesus did this for You, me, and Christian people. We can't suffer little persecution and pain ?
Jesus is our example, we need to listen to God. Peace.
