I've had a crush on the character Sherlock Holmes since I was 13 years old and I still have a crush on him to this day and I'm now 26 years old. In all my teen years I would read the mysteries daily. Anyways when I got into recovery at Church I stopped reading and watching Sherlock Holmes as it had become an idol an obsession I was getting to attached. Thing is even though I stopped reading and watching Sherlock Holmes he still came to mind every once in a while and I missed him as if he were an actual person. Then recently around Halloween I started watching the mysteries again and I'm more attached to him then ever. I've actually prayed for GOD to make Sherlock Holmes real a few times. I know I need to stop watching Sherlock Holmes but I feel like I need him. And I like thinking about him. I often think about what a relationship with him would really be like. If he were actually real I think I really would fall in love with him. I can stop watching Sherlock Holmes but I can't stop the feelings I have for him and I don't know what to do. Please pray for me over this cause I need to stop feeling what I feel for him because he isn't real. I won't be able to let go of him ever no matter how long I don't watch him or read the mysteries unless the feelings I have for him go away so please pray that GOD will take the feelings away.
 
once again i'm a broken record. there are good christian counselors that can help. not a pastor who counsels, but a licensed professional counselor. if your pastor cant recommend one you might call your local salvation army corps.

Jenny, I know how you feel. I have been in love with John Stamos since I was about 12 years old!! And now I'm 43!! Lol!! I watch re-runs of General Hospital from when he was on there back in 1982-1984 as Blackie Parrish. I have his pictures and posters--though I have gotten rid of alot of them. I figured its time for me to grow up lol!! I even have screensavers of him. THOSE I am not parting with!! Lol. Ask God to take away the urge/need/obsession to watch Sherlock Holmes movies. When we idolize something or someone, thats when it becomes an obsession. I dont idolize JS, I just like him an awful lot. But I dont build a shrine to him or pray to him. It's funny how certain movie/tv characters can seem so real to us. I've wondered many times how it would feel to be friends with John's alter ego Blackie Parrish. :) If you have books/mags/movies of Sherlock Holmes, I would suggest you either give them away or throw them out. That will be one less temptation to deal with. Ask God for help in doing this. Too much of anything is bad for us--and that includes Sherlock Holmes!! Lol..Good luck. :)
 
Jenny, I'm with Blue_Ladybug on this. Idols can come in any form to distract us from the Truth about God, if anything becomes more important in life than loving God, you need to get rid of it.

Mark 9:47 - Try, and I mean REALLY try to get rid of the material that would invoke these feelings you have. If you don't water a plant it eventually dies. So you can overcome this.
