Please pray for my cats

Hi everybody,

My family and I have been talking about getting a cat for a long time now. So, we went to a cat adoption center on the 14th and just fell in love with this adorable boy cat there. We decided to adopt him and took him home after filling out the adoption forms. Well, he seemed fine the first day we got home. He actually puked up a little but I didn't think anything of it, figured it was a hair ball or something.

The people at this cat adoption center take care of the cats very well. They make sure they're neutered or spayed, are dewormed and have all their shots. Well, my mom and I took a walk today and got in the door to realize that the cat puked in 2 places on the livingroom floor. He also puked a little near my mom's bed.

I was helping my mom clean up and went into the kitchen to get some paper towels. My mom yelled my name and said that she saw something that concerned her. There was a little spiral yellow thing in the cat's puke. We didn't touch it of course, just looked at it. My mom went over and grabbed a kleenex. She already had gloves on of course so was very sanitary about it. She picked up this little thing and tossed it into a plastic baggie. She shut it and we went into the other room to clean up the rest of the puke.

Well, I went back into the livingroom and my jaw dropped at the site. The little spiral thing in the plastic baggie now looked like a stringy piece of spaghetti! I did some research on Google and I guess that he has something called a roundworm. We're going to take him to the vet as soon as tomorrow hopefully. We have been very hygenic about everything. My mom and I have been washing our hands constantly and everything.

I'm just very scared since we for one have another cat. We of course don't want the roundworm to spread to her and also if you're not very hygenic, humans can also get it. Please pray for my cats, my mom and I. We are very worried.

This condition is very treatable.
I wouldn't worry too much about it.
God loves all of His creatures.

I prayed for your little kitten-babies, and for all the people in the house.
We have a cat who throws up a lot...but it's just that she houses her food, no chewing involved.
(I think the people who had her before we took her in left her without food a lot, and as you know, cats like to nibble often.)

I'm sure the vet will have it quickly sorted, but your mom is very wise to be careful.

Thank you so much everyone for your kind messages. The Lord has blessed me today. My mom thought about calling the place today that we got him from and they told my mom to come by tomorrow, and they can give her the stuff that they gave him last time to deworm him. We're still going to take him and my other cat to the vet on Monday, but I'm just so relieved that he'll at least feel a little better tomorrow!

Rachel, roundworms really do require a second treatment most of the time, because most dewormers don't kill roundworm eggs, just the adult worms. You'll have to treat once for the adults, and again to kill the "hatchlings" before they're mature enough to lay more eggs. I'm guessing the adoption center didn't get their schedule right on that and that's why you're seeing worms now... but that's just a guess.

P.S. Don't worry, it really is very treatable.

Thank you for your prayers so much everyone. It seems they have worked since my cat isn't puking today and has been acting fine. He doesn't feel good though I think since he's been under the bed most of the day. We're taking him to the vet tomorrow so he can get some medication for it!

Well, he had 2 treatments at the adoption center. It says it in his records that they gave us. His last treatment was August 12th. So, I'm very surprised that these roundworms came out of nowhere, but we're going to the vet tomorrow so he can get checked out so hopefully he can get some medication then and help. I'm just relieved its very treatable!

Thank you all for your prayers again and caring so much about my cat. He's doing excellent today and I'm so thankful for that. It looks like he'll be okay. We took him to the vet yesterday and got his dewormer. He had his physical exam yesterday and everything went well except he has an ear infection. He got ea drops for that so it looks like he's going to be ok!
