I am a new believer in Christ and was just recently baptized.I spent many years away from church and am now diving into the Bible to learn everything I can.
A couple things confuse me.There are alot of verses that talk about being saved and how too.If someone walked up to me and asked me what they have to do to be saved what do I tell them?I don't want to say the wrong thing and cost someone eternity.
Something else that confuses me is the rapture and the second coming of Christ and what happens it what order. Can someone please straighten me out? God bless

A person needs to truly believe in Jesus, and what He did for us on the cross (taking the punishment for our sin), which should naturally include truly repenting of all your sin. If a person sincerely believes and repents, God will change them -- they will be born again. (And this is just the beginning -- the beginning of their new life with Christ.)

A person should be immediately baptized upon believing in Jesus (as soon as possible, I mean), out of obedience to Christ, to show their repentance and new faith.

Ac 16:28But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here.Ac 16:29Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas,Ac 16:30And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?Ac 16:31And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
we are saved by faith as far as the rapture, they are three basic doctrines Pre-trib rapture, meaning God will take the church out befroe the tribulation peroid mid-trib meaning we go out somewhere around the middle of the tribulation, then there is a post- trib meaning he pulls us out on the last day after the tribulation, you will just have to here debates on either doctrine, and make your own decision. I myself am pre-trib I believe 1 thes, 4:13-18 is a different time than the last day.

1th 4:13But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.1th 4:14For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.1th 4:15For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.1th 4:16For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:1th 4:17Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.1th 4:18Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
In these scriptures Jesus does not touch down on earth as He does on the last day, but rather calls us (the Church) up to where He is. so this is a different event than on the last day, I believe also another thought here is God has always delivered His people the ones that are walking with Him, from His wrath, and I believe that He will deliver His Church from the great tribulation.

Praise God in the highest!

My brother, I wouldn't worry so much about the rapture at this point and time your christian walk. I personally recommend reading the New Testament, especially the first 5 books in order to get a good feel for who Jesus is and why He gave life for us.

I read in another thread that you were once addicted to porn and alcohol. Been there, done that myself however, Jesus has since delivered me from those addictions. If there ever comes a time when you feel and could use someone to talk to, feel free to send me a message!

GOD BLESS YOU MY BROTHER!

Hello Mcap... and be truly welcome as a Brother in Jesus Christ! If I were near you, I would take great joy in celebrating your return to God through a great meal together, but I'll leave that joy to those that have been praying and fasting for you and beside you.

In support of RoboOps post, please allow me to offer these scriptural passages.

That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord" and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Ro 10:9)
They replied, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved- you and your household" (Acts 16:3)

Before you read any scripture, humbly ask the Holy Spirit to guide you in it's understanding. Do not merely read these 2 lines, but read the whole passage, so that the fullness of it's meaning might be revealed to you through the Word of God. Use your Concordance and look up other related passages that you might be more richly fed. (My apologies if I'm repeating something you already know ;))

Please note that in these passages, it is clear that Jesus is to be accepted as Lord. I'll leave it to the Spirit in guiding you in what that means.

After 'Salvation' comes the process of allowing the Holy Spirit to change us ever more into the image of God. This is sometimes called 'Sanctification'. The Parable of the Sower is a good one to meditate on in this regard (Mk4, Lk 8, Mt13). God will refine us like silver and test us like gold, because those he loves he rebukes and disciplines (Rev 3:19).

Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father. (He 12:7)

As RoboOp noted, baptism should follow as soon as possible, and is 'the pledge of a good conscience towards God' (1Pe3:21). Some people refer to it as a public declaration of an inward change. Acts 10:47 though makes clear that there are 2 baptisms... one of water, the other by the Spirit. Spirit baptism is the seal of God's ownership upon those who follow him (2Co 1:21-22), and most would agree that it is this baptism that grants salvation. Water baptism though can and should follow afterwards, as occurs in Acts 10:47.

One your first question how does someone get ''saved''. They must confess that Jesus is the Christ and believe that God rose Him from the dead.
Romans 10
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

As far as you 2nd question when is the rapture and 2nd coming and which is first. They are after the Tribulation is over, and they occur at the same time.

Matthew 24
29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

This shows the 2nd coming immediately after the Tribulation

1st Thessalonians 4:15-17
15For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
16For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

This shows the resurrection of the just as well as the rapture occurs at the 2nd coming.

Hi, John 6.44 says "No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him to life on the last day". When people ask you what they can do to be saved, you use any of the verses that talks about salvation. the Word of God is a live.As you speak the words, God then opens up peoples understanding by giving them revelation and bang! the blind eyes begin to see.

And don't forget Romans 10:9-10!
Don't fret about the rapture...it is a controversial subject at best. The bottom line is that one's HEART must be right with God at any given time so as not to 'miss the boat' and end up like the 5 virgins too lazy to get their own oil...out in the cold.

Matthew 10:18And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles. 19But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak. 20For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.

John 15:26But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: 27And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.

John 3:14And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: 15That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. 16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Trust the Lord to help you bear witness of our hope in Jesus Christ so that sinners may be converted to Him when they believe on Him to save them as well as to deliver them from their sins so that sin shall no longer have dominion over them for He is the Good Shepherd as well as Our Saviour in helping us to live as His as well as having made us His through His blood and sealed with that spirit of adoption.

The rapture could happen at any time so the call is to be ready by leaning on Him to keep you from falling away from the faith as well as from falling back into sin, and He shall also present us faultless to His glory... thus the just shall live by faith... so when He appears.. we will not draw back for nothing will be inbetween us and Him to make us draw back... for we love Him becaue He first loved us.

Philippians 1:6Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: 7Even as it is meet for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart; inasmuch as both in my bonds, and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers of my grace. 8For God is my record, how greatly I long after you all in the bowels of Jesus Christ.. 9And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; 10That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ. 11Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

Ephesians 2:8For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9Not of works, lest any man should boast. 10For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

1 John 3:3And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.

2 Timothy 4: 1I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; 2Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine. 3For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. 5But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry. 6For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. 7I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: 8Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. .......16At my first answer no man stood with me, but all men forsook me: I pray God that it may not be laid to their charge. 17Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion. 18And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Jude 1:24Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, 25To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.
