Well I can't think of any that affect me because I'm single...but even as a Christian I know a lot of people will disagree with my opinions on most political issues. But I have no issue whatever if homosexuals want to have marriages or civil unions or whatever. I mean seriously its not like lettign a bunch of people get married or civil unions or whatever is going to destroy our moral fabric...heck call em civil unions i dont care. Abortion, well if you just sleep around or are stupid, then no im against abortion. If you get raped or the baby could kill you? well then make up your mind it wouldnt bother me in that case. im against affirmative action because its stupid. You should get whatever youre going for off of merit, not skin color. ill think of more im sure

I advocate for mental health on the state level. I have gone to the state Senate and Congress and I hope to go national someday. I advocate for domestic violence laws. I have worked for local politicians and have been on the board of council on many things around town, such as the local run day care and ran a term on the local school district board. I believe in being involved.

I often find myself wondering why more christians don't run for office. Why do you think that is?

I don't know a lot about politics but I wonder about the same thing often...sometimes I think it would be good, but sometimes I find that a christian and politics are very imcompatible. I can't imagine a christian president taking decissions according to his faith without being stoned by the other politicians or citizens. I don't know a lot about the political system here but in Mexico being a politician was often the same as being a thief, liar, and corrupt. So becoming a politician and still act christian would be impossible.
But sometimes I think that maybe God could put someone in the midst of all corruption to work from there to take the right decissions...and not necessarily christian decissions. Maybe that's what the Bible means when saying all authority comes from God...I don't know.

I don't think any policital issue affects me directly...I even think that the gay marriage, abortion laws, etc were supposed to happen at some time. If you have tons of people begging for those rights I think it's better to give them to them than having a violent revolution after, they would still act on those sins anyway. While I certainly don't approve those laws, I think they are necessary in a sinful world. If they want a worldly life...give them a worldly life.

=/ There has never been a president of the United States that has not professed to be a Christian, except possibly Thomas Jefferson but that's up for debate. Even Obama is a Christian, like him or not.
As for politics, I really only have one big issue regarding romance: Gay marriage. I believe that NOT legalizing it is a sin. I just don't get how the majority thinks they have control over the civil rights of a minority; that's what we have government for, to protect them.

I was speaking in more general terms than just the Presidency. More to the point, I often wonder why many christians feel they couldn't become involved in politics. I ask this because I'm considering running for an office in a few years if I stay here.

Do it. I have found an enormous feeling of gratification knowing that I am helping changing things, not just sitting on the sidelines. Why don't more Christians get involved? Same reason as non-Christians don't bother, because it is someone else problem. Until they don't like the solution of the other person. It is easier to gripe than to work.
I'd vote for you, Julianna! I don't think there's anything wrong with Christians running for office, if that's what they feel called to do. Way too often, I find myself settling for the candidate that I dislike the least, and it's a weird feeling. It does seem like mixing politics with a public ministry is generally a bad idea, though, because people are less likely to listen to what you have to say about Jesus if they disagree with you politically.

Political beliefs are huge for me because parties stand for policies, and policies directly affect people. For example, voting for a party that advocates universal health care vs one that does not. That's a very real concrete difference. And there are others. Right now in my life, I couldn't be with someone from the Tea Party. I could maybe be with a moderate Republican, but that would be the closest I could get. Or someone who wasn't political at all, but I think that would bug me since my major was political science.
I feel my gut starting to wrench when women start talking about politics. They shouldn't do it and shouldn't have the vote. I notice when the going gets tough women start posting pictures of puppies on here. When I think of what world leaders have to deal with compared to the trivialities that started the puppy posting it really hits home. Women should live in their own little worlds and bake cookies instead of coming up with half baked policies based on wishy washy concepts of making people feel good.

I have serious concerns about health care too, Sooner. So does the medical profession. The baby boomers are about to retire in droves and begin to qualify for Medicare. A few years later, it'll be nursing home time and Medicaid will enter the picture.
Social security, protection of family and marriage, job creation, debt reduction, globalization, defense issues, so many areas of concern.
I wish I'd taken more political science. My Masters is in criminal justice.
Both the Dems and Reps have gotten so far off point. The ideal of both parties working together for the common good is like a pipe dream. So many personal agendas and ambitions are in the way. Hard to predict how it will all play out...
