Here is what webmd.com, not an unbiased source, has to say about coronaviruses.
"The coronavirus is the cause of about 20% of colds. There are more than 30 kinds, but only three or four affect people."
So to call coronavirus the flu might actually be overstating it. Perhaps we should downgrade the description to a cold?
