I've made a post or two in the prayer requests area asking for prayers dealing with a very difficult boss. I recently let my facial expressions (feelings) relax around a manager/coworker, and verbally expressed my disgruntlement. Now, he's told my boss and this morning I got a 1hour lecture that made me feel pretty horrible and small...

I had previously been looking for other work, but this morning I verbally recommitted myself to working for my boss and keeping our department priority numero uno. (Previously I was trying to finish tasks that involved other departments so that everyone would be happy with our department).

She pressured me several times to see if I would resign. I did not since 1) it would make me feel even worse for talking about her to someone else and 2) if I resign instead of being fired, I wouldn't be eligible for unemployment, and no matter how miserable I am, I cannot quit without first finding another job.

the issue:

I've verbally recommitted myself to being loyal to her and the job, so I don't feel like I can look for work elsewhere anymore. I don't feel like it would be right to go back on my word. (Let my "yes be yes", so to speak.) How long should I wait before I start looking for other work again? Or should I?

P.S. I understand that these are the consequences of my sin (gossiping), and I accept that I did something wrong and I've apologized to her. Please don't remind me :( I already feel bad enough.

I don't know your situation, but what kind of coworker backstabs a fellow employee???......sounds like you should look for a new place of work.....while being true to your word is good...you need to do what is right for you! I would try hard to find another job so that you can transition over to that, because your current work environment will only become more toxic than it already has become....if your boss is still treating you bad, your verbal commitment is not an "official" contract "aka not in paper" and an idiot boss doesn't deserve your hard work if he still treats you bad.....My suggestion is don't get down, have some healthy pride/esteem about yourself and look for another job to escape the bear trap you're in....
