(CNN)
-- It was the embrace that melted hearts worldwide.
Pope Francis, pausing for a moment to pray and lay his hands on a man with a disfiguring disease. The man gently burying his head in the Pope's chest, his many facial tumors visible.
His encounter with the ailing man occurred in Vatican City on Wednesday at the end of the general audience, which had about 50,000 attendees.

Some say Pope Francis is living up to the ideals of his namesake, Francis of Assisi, a preeminent figure who considered himself a servant to the poor and destitute.

Since taking over as the leader of the world's 1.2 billion Catholics, the Pope has highlighted the need to reach out to the poor and afflicted.
"Lord, teach us to step outside ourselves," he tweeted in August. "Teach us to go out into the streets and manifest your love."
A month later, he echoed the same sentiment.
"True charity requires courage: let us overcome the fear of getting our hands dirty so as to help those in need," he tweeted.

The Pope has called for open interaction with people from all walks of life, especially the poor, weak and vulnerable.
And he is practicing what he preaches.
The man the Pope comforted suffers from neurofibromatosis. The genetic disorder causes pain and thousands of tumors throughout the body. It leads to hearing and vision loss, heart and blood vessel complications, and severe disability from nerve compression by tumors.

The moment marked the latest in a series of memorable encounters for the Pope.
In the eight months since he was elected pope, the 76-year-old pontiff has emerged as an endearing figure known for his humility and desire to build a more inclusive church.
When a young boy wandered on stage during a homily last month, the pontiff let him stay by his side and even gave him a playful pat on the head.
Pope Francis has stayed true to his humble Jesuit roots by choosing to live a simple life. He has declined to move into the lavish papal apartments and insists on carrying his own bags.
His car of choice for getting around the Vatican? It’s a 1984 Renault.

Matthew 7

21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

This is not meant to discredit your post. You are right, it is Christ like.
I feel I must warn we must watch closely all the Pope does. It is a very
critical time in our nearing the coming of Christ.

My heart goes out to the poor man with the tumors. Yes, Jesus would
heal this man with one touch. Please be careful and do not be deceived
by the 'good' deeds the Pope does. I am only suggesting it is a time of
deception. As time goes on we will see more from him.

Agreed ~ Thank you ~

The Pope is just loving the man, not performing signs and wonders and/or asking people to worship Him.

Or it could just be exactly what it looks like. A leader among equals, leading Christ's people on the right road.

[h=3]Matthew 23[/h]King James Version (KJV)

23 Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples,
2 Saying The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat:
3 All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.
4 For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.
5 But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,
6 And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,
7 And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.
8 But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren.
9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.

Amen brother. Praised be Jesus Christ, now and forever!

Matthew 15

8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
10 And he called the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and understand:
11 Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.
12 Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying?
13 But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up.
14 Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the dit

And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.

You misinterpret that scripture, taking it out of context, Isdaniel.

Or is the Apostle Paul also in error according to you?
See in Corinthians, for example...

For though you have countless guides in Christ, you do not have many fathers. For I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel" (1 Cor. 4:14–15).

Paul again...

"I appeal to you for my child, Onesimus, whose father I have become in my imprisonment" (Philem. 10).

Etc.. etc...
There's many examples throughout the bible of spiritual fatherhood, including Job, Abraham, Peter, Eliakim, John, etc.. etc...

You and many other protestants are misinterpreting scripture, Isdaniel,, and your understanding of Catholicism is terribly misguided.

Peace and blessings in Jesus Christ.

Gross mistranslation in 1 Corinthians 4:15...check the greek, it should read:

15 For although you might have ten thousand teachers in Yahshua, yet you do not have many fathers; for in Yahshua Messiah I have begotten you through the message.

Same with Philemon 1:10:

10 I appeal to you for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten while in my chains;

You can find a detail list of the Fathers will in the OT. The summary is in the NT.

And when St. Paul tells us about some being called to be overseers was that heresy. Surely not. Pope Francis I is the head overseer of the Roman Catholic Church. While many are quick to judge him, he has devoted his life to Christ. Until he speaks open apostasy, and not the simple heresies that all Christians find in their minds, Habemus Papum.

The pope is doing a great job at showing EVERYBODY how humble he is.
