ooooh Mr Pope is in trouble now, I have no problem with the gays but I do not support them being Priests. Also I hate the whole pope idea anyways, People seem to worship and respect a pope in the catholic chruch than God himself. Also never liked the idea he gets called father, as he is not our father God is

But you have no problem with the gays?

To Have a homersexual orientation means to have an attraction to the same sex rather than the opposite sex. This is not the sin. The sin is falling to that desire/temptation and committing the act. Just like someone who falls to the weakness of anger, doesn't control his temper and assaults someone. The same can be said about priests. A hetrosexual priest who falls to the temptation to sleep with a woman is JUST AS WRONG as the priest who sleeps with a man. All sins are the same, are they not? Pope Francis is right in not singling these men out. We are all called to stay strong in our faith and fight our temptation, whatever that might be. The article says Pope Francis DID NOT judge these men, which is something we can all learn from him. Indeed, it seems the only one being judged in this thread is PopeFrancis.

Well if these men were allowed to marry, there would be far less of a problem? Where in scriptures did God ever demand that elders in the church not marry? Bad idea all around.

The pope is just trying to make the catholics accept that most of their priests are homosexuals, so he won't have to deal with all the scandals anymore. Next thing he'll probably say pedophilia is alright, just to stop the outrage over all the child abuse in the RCC. This pope is truly a wolf in sheep's clothing.

His predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI, signed a document in 2005 that said men with deep-rooted homosexual tendencies should not be priests. But you're saying the last pope was wrong and this pope is right.

And contrary to your present opinion, not all sins are considered by God to be equal though I agree with you they are all damnable outside of Christ.

Jesus said there were "weightier matters of the law" (Matt. 23:23 KJV), such as, for example, mercy and justice over tithing. He also declared our love for God to be a higher duty than our love for human beings, calling the former "the first and greatest commandment" (Matt. 22:38). Jesus told Pilate that "the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin" (John 19:11).

The more severe eternal punishment for some is due to the heaviness of the sins they have committed (Rev. 20:12). John spoke of a sin so monstrous that God took the guilty person's life (1 John 5:16).

Paul said some were disciplined with death by God for partaking of the Lord's table in an unworthy manner (1 Cor. 11:29-30), indicating that this is a particularly substantial sin.

Etc...

Not only are some sins greater, there is also a "greatest" sin, the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit (Matt. 12:32).

All sins can be placed into two broad categories: sins of commission and sins of omission. This means that some sins are doing what we should not do, and others are not doing what we should do.

God singled out seven particular sins He cannot abide:

"There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him: [l] haughty eyes, [2] a lying tongue, [3] hands that shed innocent blood, [4] a heart that devises wicked schemes, [5] feet that are quick to rush into evil, [6] a false witness who pours out lies and [7] a man who stirs up dissension among brothers. (Prov. 6:16-19).

Simply stated, these are pride, deceit, murder, plotting evil, quickness to do Wrong, false testimony, and troublemaking.

Etc...

Putting men with deeply-rooted homosexual tendencies or deeply-rooted pedophilia tendencies into positions of church leadership is a bad idea just like putting men with deep-rooted tendencies to embezzle in positions of political authority is a bad idea.

The former has already led to sweeping problems of sexual abuse around the world that they engaged in from their positions of authority within the Catholic church.

That's why the first pope signed a declaration stating it was a bad idea in 2005.

But new pope new message. Now it's all good to put men with deeply-rooted tendencies of gross sexual immorality into positions of authority in the Catholic Church.

It's not hard to see what comes next.
about all sins not being the same, you agree with Catholics on this. We also learned from Scripture that not all sins are equal. I was just pointing out what so many Protestants have said to me before about all sins being equal and I was trying to understand how your point made sense if you believed that too.

Brother, you're taking what both popes said out of context in order to suit your argument. Benedict said it was a bad idea for men with deeply rooted tendencies to be priests. He did not rule out ALL men with gay tendencies. He understood that even men with gay tendencies can be Godly. Pope Francis did NOT say its ok to put men with DEEPLY ROOTED tendencies as priests. You must remember that these men (popes) are shepherds to Christ's flock. How can they show Christ's love by singling out individuals for their unfortunate circumstances? Ok, tell me something. Do you think that a man with gay tendencies is incapable of teaching the Word of God? And another thing. Who do you think has a better chance of getting through to gay people when preaching about the sin of homersexuality acts? A priest/preacher who has experienced their desires, or a straight man who hasn't the slightest clue what they experience? Rest assured, if these priests with gay tendencies were to teach anything against God's law, they would be dealt with accordingly, just like any other priest. If you met a man with Gay tendencies who had such a great love for The Lord and never had sex with a man before, and was extremely well versed in Scripture and so obviously had the Holy Spirit working in him, would you deny him the chance to preach? C'mon people we are Christians. They'll know we are Christians by our love for one another. Every man and woman on this earth has a GOD GIVEN right to preach the Word, gay tendencies or not. God bless

Hello 777-(nice to speak to you again:)),
It is not a good ideal for priests of a homosexual bent to be declared celibate and around alter boys.
This truth has been borne out before.
I can't believe the new 'Pontiff of Christ' would encourage that?
I mean,.......I don't care how big a fish hat he is wearing,he should know better.
- The princely state of being the 'Vicar of Christ" should have told him so.
- - I hope the 'New Peter' has not succumbed to politically correct pressures.

- - - (Hey, how are you doing bud?:))

brother Rick, I'm doing well praise God. How have you been?
Bro, I think you missed my whole point lol please re-read my last comment. I was chatting to my girlfriend about this today actually. I thought of something while I was talking with her too. What if preaching God's word was this man's (with gay tendencies) calling? What if God wanted him to be in a position of leadership to show other gays that this abominable desire can be beaten for the sake of Christ? Who are we to take that risk and stop The Lord's work being carried out? I'm not saying every case is like this, brother, but this really goes a lot deeper than a lot of people are seeing. We have to stop thinking with our corrupted earthly minds and try to see what God might be planning. Anyway, this iPhone is killing me lol God bless you brother. Peace be with you always.

this is directly from the article in the link you posted:
The Vatican does not condemn homosexuals. But it teaches that gay sex is "intrinsically disordered". Pope Benedict has barred sexually active gay men from studying for the priesthood.
See, it says pope Benedict barred SEXUALLY ACTIVE gay men from studying for the priesthood. SEXUALLY ACTIVE meaning involved in sexual activities. Pope Francis allows men with gay tendencies but he doesn't allow sexually active men. There was no contradiction between the two. The both of these great men fully understand human weakness but still know the capabilities of God Almighty to work in anyone. Amen. Praise The Lord for these great leaders among equals, called popes.

No I'm not. You're in denial of what's happening in the Catholic Church as are many Catholics.

The Catholic Church has not and still do not vet their priests properly with respect to homosexuality and when they are discovered they do not enforce their own policy. Even after they commit homosexual acts or sex crimes on minors they were simply relocated to begin anew in many instances.

The John Jay Report of 2004 documented that homosexual men entered the Catholic priesthood in noticeable numbers in the 1970's and 80's which resulted in the sweeping sexual abuse and sexual immorality scandals around the globe [1].

So it's no surprise that studies by Wolf and Sipe from the early 1990s suggest that the percentage of priests in the Catholic Church who admitted to being homosexual or were in homosexual relationships was well above the national average for the United States of America.[2]

Elizabeth Stuart, a former convener of the Catholic Caucus of the Lesbian and Gay Christian movement claimed, "It has been estimated that at least 33 percent of all priests in the RC Church in the United States are homosexual."[3]

One report suggested that since the mid-1980s Roman Catholic priests in the United States were dying from AIDS-related illnesses at a rate four times higher than that of the general population; with most of the cases contracted through same-sex relations, and the cause often concealed on their death certificates.[4]

And both past and present studies have shown a much higher rate of pediphilia amongst homosexuals per capita than hetrosexuals[5].

They even made their way to the highest levels of the Catholic Church pressuring the pope himself which resulted in the scandal leading to the last pope's retirement [6].

The Roman Catholic church has a homosexual priest problem currently and the present pope is opening the door to more of it rather than reforming the existing problem. The result will be a second wave of scandal in due time.

I think some may have misinterpreted the pope. This question of homosexuality was one of many questions that he answered while he was on a plane. I dont think he was trying to "promote" the idea of homosexual priest being accepted in Catholic Church, he was just simply saying he cannot judge everyone. Everyone has tendencies that do not line up with Christ, does that disqualify us from serving God..no. We must keep these tendencies/habits/thoughts in check and ask God for forgiveness. I think there is a difference in having homosexual tendencies, and living an outright homosexual lifestyles without any shame or guilt. With that being said, I do think that they should allow priest to marry. There is nothing in scripture that says a man..priest or otherwise cannot marry. I think it would draw more heterosexual men to the priesthood. Those are my thoughts on the matter.

So dumb. So false. So utterly ignorant.

My 1st point would be although I would hesitate to indict the laity , how could you argue her point that the catholic church clergy participated in, enabled, turned a blind eye toward, and relocated pedophiles who engaged in homosexual sins and crimes against children at the highest levels?

Secondly, if you believe that "ignorance reigns supreme" on Christianchat then why are you here except to cause strife and dissension? Why not go to catholicchat instead?

The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. 2 Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron. 3 They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth.- 1 Timothy 4: 1-3

26
Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts.Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones.
27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.- Romans 1: 26-27

9 Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men -1 Cor 6:9

The man is the first pope in centuries, or ever, to step up and say,"who am I to judge" this statement has rattled the catholic church, its the first time any pope has ever stated himself to be fallen human like the rest of us, and not try to stand in a position of superiority...The man washes peoples feet in the streets knowing he might get shot doin it, moved out of the pope palace into a apartment with the rest of the vatican community, and placed himself in a position of being no one special...It wasent a political statement, it was an honest reflection of the gospels as far as I can tell...If you took the entire non orthodox community (us), and consolidated it as one church, and drew the attention to it, that gets drawn to the Catholic church, I wonder how much dirty laundry we would find? ...I think they have the first good man in the drivers seat they have ever had. And Im sure not going to be judging him for that...PS, He wasent advocating child molestation in any way, or the acting out of any lustful desires which everyone has to battle...He said "If someone is gay, who searches for the Lord and has goodwill, who am I to judge?” Never heard that come out of the mouth of a Pope before...always remember about those 3 fingers pointing back at you as you point to someone in judgment...

I have a multitude of problems with the catholic church, however this pope's statement is being a little misunderstood. We have to be consistent. Homosexuality is a sin, so is lust, pride, drunkenness and so on. If someone has homosexual feelings, just as if someone has lustful feelings toward women, or other sinful thoughts, and confess their sin AS SIN, and truly try to refrain from acting on it, by feeding the Spirit, then I don't have a problem with them in ministry. There are no sinless, perfect clergy out there. Homosexuals, like other sinners, who confess their sin and repent, are just as much my brother in the Lord than the man who has lived, what WE would consider, a righteous life.

There is no problem if people who have repented of homosexuality would serve in the ministry. Every single person (including all church leaders everywhere) on earth has to repent of something or the other. However, the Pope seems to be generally saying that having homosexual priests would not be of much concern to him. This is like tolerating "sin in the camp." The Bible is clear that an overseer must be above reproach (1 Tim 3:2). The Pope must take responsibility to adhere to this instruction of the Apostle Paul, if he believes in the Bible as the Word of God. No one has given anyone to override instructions written in the Bible.

If the Pope does not judge homosexual priests, why is the Catholic church rigid on celibacy, which is not at all biblical? He must also leave the decision of marriage to the individual priests.

Furthermore, the gay governor of Italy (and other gay organizations) is using the Pope's words in order to justify homosexuality.
